Question re Q4OS 2.4, Scorpion

Hi forum,

I use Q4OS 1.8.8, Orion on older Dell Optiplex GX240's and it is working great but I saw news release today and was thinking of updating to new Q4OS 2.4, Scorpion. My quick question is, do I have to reinstall the new LTS Q4OS 2.4, Scorpion or is there a way to upgrade from Q4OS 1.8.8, Orion.

Also is my current 1.8.8 Orion an LTS? Sorry I did research that one, but I think looking down through the release notes, that it isn't?

I'm kind of guessing that I have to do a reinstall but hell I'll ask the experts.

Regards

Re: Question re Q4OS 2.4, Scorpion

We would recommend you to keep using Orion, if it works well for you. Orion is a LTS as well, and will be supported until May 2020.

If you want, for some reason, upgrade to Scorpion, we strongly recommend you to perform a fresh installation, as there is no clean way to upgrade from Orion to Scorpion.

Thanks for that! I was also wondering about an upgrade path.
And thanks for all your hard work! Q4OS is a truly brilliant system!

Re: Question re Q4OS 2.4, Scorpion

@q4osteam Thanks for that information. I will hold off on updating on Scorpion for time being on the working Dell Optiplex GX240's and try the new release on a spare one. Keep up the great work wink

Re: Question re Q4OS 2.4, Scorpion

I just wanted to add that users can easily check if their system is compatible with Scorpion by using the live-cd version of Q4OS, I use it almost exclusively as I prefer to know in advance if everything will work OOTB.

Re: Question re Q4OS 2.4, Scorpion

Ive done quite a few installs so far and had no issues but systems like the gx240 will have issues .

Agre with Dai as Ive been using the livecd for testing and the installation cd for the installs.

Re: Question re Q4OS 2.4, Scorpion

Scorpion works great on my system which is an 11 year old Asus AMD Athlon 6000+. And those annoying TDE bugs appear to be fixed.

Re: Question re Q4OS 2.4, Scorpion

Many 10-12 year old systems will do fine with Scorpion but bios issues/ hardware configurations vary a lot and in some cases its been a no go in my recent installs.

Havent spotted any bugs so far and no reports from other users.
