The issue you reported https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.ph … 484#p34484 should be fixed withing the new Q4OS winsetup 6.8 release. Could you please confirm ? You need to download new q4os-winsetup-6.8-r1.zip from https://www.q4os.org/downloads1.html

Hello,
I installed Q4OS Plasma a couple days ago to try it out and pleased with it so far!
I've been mostly using Arch flavored OS's the last 2-3 years.
I found MX Arch last week and installed it then and it is working very nicely also. I tried the Snapshot feature on it and really like it!.
I stumbled onto this thread after doing a search to see if MX Snapshot would work on Q4OS.

After getting just about all the software/programs I use installed on Q4OS I installed S4 Snapshot today and ran it. Took 23 minutes to produce my ISO which was 49GB in size.
My intention in doing so is I'm looking for a stable Plasma to put on my laptop that doesn't have to be updated as often as Arch OS's.
I copied the ISO to my Ventoy thumb drive and rebooted and selected the S4 Snapshot ISO.
It booted within a minute or so and there was my whole system, all my programs, all my customization's, etc., etc. Very cool!!
I started the installer with no issue and it was ready to install my system to wherever I wanted it.

I booted back into Q4OS on my desktop drive and used the S4 Live USB Maker to install the ISO on a 64GB thumb drive. This took about 90 minutes to complete but probably was a combination of the large size of the ISO and the thumb drive speed?
It completed successfully so I rebooted into the that thumb drive and only after about a minute or so I was back in my original installation again, working perfectly! Tried the installer again and it fired up no issues.

I believe I found my new OS for my laptop and I'm going to continue running Q4OS on my main machine and see how it goes.
I really liked the choice of being able to install a minimum system (MX Linux has a lot of extra stuff I don't really need).

A very enjoyable journey so far into the Q4OS world!

Continuing my post from 2025-12-22 15:59 - Thank you for fixing the issue with S4-Snapshot/MX-Snapshot for usage in live sessions without persistence!
Good work: I am able to install these apps in a live session and do a snapshot with them. The ISOs boot, but somehow the system got unasable with the snapshots.

More than once in a minute mouse movement stops for about 5 seconds, same with keyboard input: key presses are not accepted while the text cursor still blinks!

I did my tests with a Q4OS 6.8-TDE live session, no other apps installed, only configured network to get Wifi working and stop notifications, disabled energy saving and screensaver.
After installing mx-tools from your experimental apps, I did a logout/login and made a snapshot with MX-Snapshot and booted the ISO.
I have repeated the same with a vanilla ISO and the installation of S4-Snapshot from your experimental apps: same result with the resulting snapshot.

Two minor inconveniences with Q4OS 6.8-TDE, I have already noticed in prior versions:
1) After clicking "Logout" in the startmenu or the desktop's contextmenu, the logout panel shows up immediately, but after clicking one of the buttons, it takes 20-30s until the action is accepted.
2) As I am still booting ISOs with Ventoy 1.1.0.0, it would be fine when the boot partition would show up in Konqueror's "Storage Media" to be able to copy a new snapshot to Ventoy's ISO-folder. Currently I am using MX-Linux 23.6 XFCE live sessions and with this distro there is no such issue and MX-Snapshot works like a charm...

Thank you for testing and reporting back.

The periodic 5-second freezes are definitely not expected. We have not been able to reproduce this behavior so far, so we'll investigate whether it is related to running a snapshot created from a live session or to another component included in the generated ISO.

Could you please provide a few more details?

Does the issue also occur after installing the snapshot to a hard disk, or only when booting the ISO as a live system?
Are you booting the snapshot directly with Ventoy, or does the same happen when the ISO is written to a USB flash drive using a standard imaging tool?

Could you post the output of:
$ journalctl -b
$ dmesg
from the affected snapshot, and mention your hardware specifications?

Regarding the other points:
The delayed response of the logout dialog is a separate issue. We'll investigate it independently. Thank you for the suggestion regarding Ventoy integration. We appreciate your testing. Reports like yours help us improve S4 Snapshot.
