New User - Install Linux Drivers for Logitech Webcam Messenger V-UM14

I am a new user of Q4OS and Linux.

I have been reviving older machines to be sent to classrooms in Central America.  This will be the first machine to use Q4OS (earlier machines used WINDOWS or Linux LXLE).  The test-bed machine moves very nicely with Linux Q4OS / Trinity (-32bit), with XPQ4 overlay.

SPECIAL REQUEST: WEBCAM

A webcam has been requested for this one, but I was surprised how Q4OS is not recognizing wireless minicards and USB webcam distros OOTB, like, for instance Lubuntu LXLE 18.04.3.

QUESTION: Compiling the Webcam Driver from the download. ????

[EDIT: evidently one of the things that makes Q4OS so fast and light is that it doesn't bring with it a body of baked-in drivers for many devices.  Indeed, it gets its speed by stripping the install down to the absolutely necessary, like a stock car, and you add what is needed after the fact.  I have found links to those who have run into the same problem, compiled drivers for this particular webcam in (Debian) Linux, BUT it requires that the file be 1) downloaded, 2) decompressed, and then, 3) compiled.  It is step 3 that I am having problems with.  I have found three Linux driver packages that will make the Logitech V-UM14 work with Debian / Q4OS, theoretically, but -- being new to Linux -- *** I do not know this thing you Earth People call "compiling." *** ]

I have tried self help (links and actions below) in seeing if there are ready-made drivers for a Logitech Webcam Messenger V-UM14. It is not recognized by plugging the camera into a USB port.

Prior to posting here, I used the search utility to see if this question was previously answered in this forum, and this was the closest prior post on topic (but alas, without good resolution).

I have located and downloaded into the /DOWNLOADS directory a tar file containing the needed drivers (see links below).

I have clicked on it, and it has created its own directory.

I have tried to consult pages on compiling the driver, and that is where I am running into difficulty.

*** How do I translate the downloaded driver file into one that allows the machine to recognize the device? ***

Q4OS is Debian actually, so we would recommend you to search for general Debian solutions. If the webcam works on Debian, it will work in Q4OS as well.

This site has a little information about the camera, you could compare what is listed to the results you have, although I had a similar camera that would not co-operate with Linux and I ended up sending it to a charity shop as it worked fine with Windows.

That's an interesting (Dutch language) website.  Dutch is a little more understandable to me (since I speak some German, and Dutch is actually German with a lot more gargling and spitting) than Linux.

Like the Dutch text, I have to guess what's actually being said in Linux-speak, and gather that in the text boxes below consist of terminal commands (in darker grey background) such as "lsusb," with the text immediately below being what the answer in Linux should be.

Doing some internet searching, I found several links which stated their drivers would work in (Debian?) Linux for the Logitech V-UM14.

So, I think I have the drivers.  The question from one making the transition from Windows is how to "compile" this compressed file into a working driver?
