Stopping the clock

As I am building a minimal virtual machine to run Linux programs on a Windows machine, I don't need to have a clock in this VM. Hence wondering if there is a way to remove it (and prevent it from starting)

Also I have the sound mixer that keeps on being there even if I try to close it - the VM has no sound card, so it is a bit ridiculous to have this mixer on the bar.

And if there are other unrequired things or services that I could take off to make the VM as light as possible, I have my ears wide open!

System is Q4OS 2.7 in 32 bits.

Thanks
Claude

Re: Stopping the clock

You mean just remove the clock from the taskbar?  You can't actually STOP the clock from a low-end level, as the OS does indeed require it to function.

Re: Stopping the clock

The clock can not be stopped. They are required for kernel to function properly.

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

Re: Stopping the clock

Indeed I was mostly surprised that I couldn't remove the clock from the taskbar - most other things are removeable.
But I can live with it - this is no real problem.

However if there are other services that are started at boot, require some memory, and aren't absolutely necessary in a virtual machine (for example sound drivers), then I'd like to be able to prevent these from starting.
Is there a way? Is there a script somewhere that specifies what is started at boot that I could edit?
Since this is a VM, I can make a snapshot before playing with it, and if I break something, I can easily go back to previous state...
Thanks

Actually, this doesn't work... It is already unchecked. If I check it, I then get 2 clocks side by side!

Re: Stopping the clock

So, let it unchecked and remove clock applet from panel.
Mouse right click on the system panel > Unlock panels > Mouse right click to the system panel again > Remove from panel > Applet > Clock > Optionally lock the panel again.

We can also recommend you to install Lookswitcher and switch to the "Wine_Classic" theme. It will lower memory and system requirements significantly. Comparable by "htop" application.
