When I try to run Kb3 program, I get files need to be fixed. I went into synaptic and un-installed Kb3. When I tried to rein-install it, it's no longer there.Has it been discontinued, or do I have to fix files in the terminal...?

First, check you are searching 'k3b', not 'kb3' in synaptic.
Next, please run in terminal:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install k3b
and post back the output.

OK..,thanks, I will..!

k3b is available in Synaptic and your running Orion arent you Capt? Should see k3b-trinity. You can also run brasero or xfburn if you prefer.

Yes,CC....I like K3b for burning ISO discs. Do I need to download the Debian Trinity packages also...?

No, just install the package in synaptic k3b-trinity and your good to go. I ran it with Orion with no issues.

How did the install go? Its the same in Scorpion as installing k3b-trinity pulls in all the needed packages and plugins.

Install went fine,CC. I think the computer just needed a reboot. After I installed k3b trinity,I burned the Orion 1.8.8 file on a DVD blank disc. No problem. Then, I tried to burn Scorpion on a DVD disc, and it said it finished burning,,but the burn program showed only half done.So I tried it with another blank DVD, and the same thing. I had to cancel out of the program, cause it seemed like it was only half way thru. I checked the amount of content, it showed Scorpion 2.4 ISO 591.0 MB. I guess it's all good. BTW...have you ever wrestled with a contemptable CD door/drawer...? UGH..!!

Yes, Ive had some older drives that dont want to open or the drawer gets stuck. I lube the drawer underside with a q-tip and wd40 but I try to not overdo it as you dont want residue getting into the drive as it might hit the laser lens.
Some dvd drives also dont like cds and Ive had some problems getting them burnt properly.

Lube-ing the underside won't do much. It's the belt inside the very front. Needs cleaned or changed. Watch the video on YouTube.

Depends on the drive and the problem. Belt can be the problem(push eject button nothing happens). Ive used belt conditioner with a q-tip applied to the belt to improve its condition or replace. Many times the rack at the bottom of the drawer where the plastic gear(sometimes pinion gear) hits gets worn and can stick or be dirty(wont open easily or erratically). Drawer can also be slightly out of alignment but depends on the drive. Ive got enough backup drives I tend to just replace it and move on even though Ive opened quite a few drives over the years.

Hi Capt,
I have had problems writing to DVDs in the past. Sometimes it seems like the drive just doesn't like certain brands of disk.
As a thought, and please ignore me if you already do (I'm just chucking in my tuppence !) but I find that I have to write DVDs at the lowest speed. Anything higher and the write fails. You probably already know this, as I say just ignore me - I'll go away eventually!

Phil

All good..! I've always used the slowest write speed when burning CDs. I've just started using blank DVD's,since I was actually able to get a better deal on them. However, perhaps it's not a good deal,if they are temperamental. I've always had the best luck with Memorex Black 700 MB. With all forms of media. Audio, pictures, data and ISO's. Perhaps it's the color that works so well..?? Just speculating. I've never had one fail. Can't say that with silver colored CD's. Chime in anytime...your thoughts are appreciated..! This is what the forum is for.

I just thought I would post a comment as I have had a few problems with DVD writing over the years and found that sometimes certain types of disc wont work with certain types of writer, there are 5 types of disc (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM) sometimes it's the type "mis-match" that can cause errors, if you have another type of disc available I would try it to see if it makes a difference. Obviously it could just be the drive unit but might be worth checking.
P.s. This is why I always use USB devices now

I stick to Memorex as they are consistently excellent and I also use DVD +R/+RW as its generally more accepted and all of my drives have no issues with it.

When I use $ sudo apt-get update, the files all download, but at the end this appears : W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/mc3man/gstffmp … 6/Packages 404 Not Found
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Is there anyway to correct this...?

ppa... tut tut tut...
But the problem is likely due to a change in the ppa address, I would check the launchpad site and make sure the address you have in your sources.list is correct.
Are you sure you really want to use ppa's though?, is there an alternative?
Offline
Don't know anything about ppa...nor launchpad site. If i can delete or remove it, all good. It just appreared after a Fire Fox update...

Im with Dai dont use ppas, so many problems ensue.

So..how can i correct this...? or remove ...?
Offline
simply remove any ppa's from your sources.list and then run apt-get update and it should be cleared, but any underlying damage that may have been caused by having a ppa on your system will surface eventually, hopefully nothing too drastic,

Thanks,Dai,
I'll try to find it....I assume the source.list is in programs...?
Offline
/etc/apt/sources.list
or it could be in /etc/apt/sources..list.d/ depending on how it is configured.

Thanks,Dai..!
I'll let you know how it works.
