Re: update via *iso USB-Stick

Hi thombae, and welcome to the forum. I have used apt-offline in the past for updating a machine that could not get an internet connection and have posted some information in this post. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you want but it should help you update a system by gathering the updates from another machine with faster internet and then transfer updates to the slow internet machine all done by using a usb stick (and a few packages).

I do the same thing when a system has internet connection issues and use another pc, works very well.

Re: update via *iso USB-Stick

Yes, it was very handy for me to install the wifi firmware on a machine I couldn't get a connection to (I needed to compile it, so quite a few packages to install on a fresh machine). It has a few quirks and isn't the most user friendly package I've worked with but it got the job done.

I feel for people who have issues and dont have that spare system or a friend nearby to get necessary apps/downloads.

Re: update via *iso USB-Stick

Hi,

the question was how to update via the live *iso USB Stick. The update files are taken from the usb
This is possible in  other distros like SUSE, Ubuntu etc.

So its possible offline too.
Maybe Your installer doesnt have this opportunity..

So please change to an installer with this opportunity..

Many people on the country have no www to download.

thx

Re: update via *iso USB-Stick

When you install from an iso image you will have the packages that are on the usb image, you would have to download updates or newer packages somehow... I'm not really sure what you mean by updating from usb stick...

Are you wanting to download a newer Live-cd iso image and use that for updating your computer(s)? if that is the case it could be possible by "loop mounting" the iso image and gain access to the repositories there.

But without some sort of internet access you cannot get new updates.

Re: update via *iso USB-Stick

Theres no way around gaining updates/new iso images by downloading from some source then putting them on some type of storage media, usb stick/cd-dvd/memory card.
