You will have to install the kernel manually (using apt-get) the Q4OS script will not work even with backports enabled.

sudo apt-get install linux-image-4.12.0-0.bpo.2-amd64

Re: " xvideo no adpaptor"

Yes, first make sure you have rebooted the machine and then you could post the output of inxi -F and we can take it from there...

Re: " xvideo no adpaptor"

You might be able to install a newer graphic driver if it is available, but I cannot see one from my machine and I have backports enabled. As for whether it will be as smooth as Q4OS 1.8.7, I would imagine that as the software is tested more and updates are made it will improve although I cannot say why Ubuntu would run any smoother, but Q4OS 1.8.7 is a very tried and tested version and will likely run with least issues but that comes with the issue of not being able to set video correctly which is what brought us to the current situation. If you are dual booting with Ubuntu you could have a look to see what versions of the kernel and graphics drivers are although I am guessing you would need to compile any newer versions if you wanted them before they become available in the repositories.
