I used to like Claws-Mail, but with the fancy plugin being removed due to it being insecure anymore, I had to abandon it. I get almost all html mail, and it just looks AWFUL without a proper html support. You could get dillo to work as an html display, but links wouldn't work right, and it didn't interface with the clipboard correctly, so I just abandoned Claws and went back to Thunderbird.
IMO, what we need is a lightweight email solution that can properly display html email (that includes more than text).

Ive used Geary which is quite lightweight but it lacked some of the features of Thunderbird so I stopped using it.

Evolution is a great email app but is by no means a lightweight app. If I was running a minimalist install Id probably use Geary its a nice app.

Sylpheed mentioned in the article is also very nice.

Sylpheed, IMO, has the same issue as claws (not surprising, since claws is based off sylpheed), it's a great email client, but reading HTML email is absolute rubbish looking in it, with no easy and adequate (IMO) solution to do so.

Hello, I am using a intel atom netbook, and the only snappy and fast email client I found is Claws Mail, after trying many. Others, like thunderbird, are very good and fine but boot slowly on my old processor.
Good Sunday

Geary is another lightweight email client thats used in some well known lightweight distros.

Sylpheed and Claws mail don't play nice with gmail...only thunderbird works fine.

Here, the so-called Google security is to blame for everything.

Hey! You might want to try Claws Mail, it's super lightweight and fast. Other options are Sylpheed, Geary, or Trojita. They're all simpler than Thunderbird and great for older hardware.
Personally, I use Claws Mail and I'm very happy with it! It's good to test a few to see which one fits your needs best.

Same here. And yes while it is not a lightweight app I prefer it to Geary - when I first tried it on another distro it reminded me too much of Outlook365 so I ditched it. I have been a Thunderbird fan, but the backend is now too embedded with Google stuff that cannot be removed.
