Delay on shutdown

I'm getting the error message on shut down / reboot saying Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Stack is running a process and I have top wait 90 seconds for it to timeout, Is there a known workaround for this? I have googled a bit and it appears to be a problem if shares are not unmounted (or synced) I do not use shares at all on my system so the onlly other thing I could think of would be the way konqueror loads partitions maybe?
for instance, if I mount a partition from storage media I don't appear to have the issue, but if I just double click the partition to browse it I seem to have this shutdown issue. I am not 100% certain this is the cause, as I have not run comparison tests due to lack of free time, but it appears to be a connection.

Sometimes I also have this error message and delay on shutdown, but this happens quite rarely, so I haven`t posted it as issue.

I seem to have it happening quite regularly, but that is because I have several partitions on my hdd and mount them as and when I need to grab something from them, I will have to try and make sure I unmount them all before I shutdown.

Unfortunately, this Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Stack bug still have not been fixed! Yesterday, I had to wait for 90 seconds before shutdown. Also my aunt sometimes complains about very slow shutdown. I have noticed this bug on her notebook too.
So is it possible somehow to reduce the time, before this service will be forced to stop? For example, reduce timeout to be 30 seconds instead of 90?

Haven had the issue on any of my desktops or laptops with Orion or Scorpion but the way I use my pc is drastically different from Dai.

I have to admit I have not been affected by this for a while, but that is more likely due to me not doing hardly anything on the laptop except visiting forums, a bit of shopping and watching the occasional YouTube video.

There is a file you could edit to change the default timeouts for systemd, it is /etc/systemd/system.conf there are two lines of interest,

#DefaultTimeoutStartSec=90s
#DefaultTimeoutStopSec=90s

uncomment and adjust time to suit and you can reduce the timeout delay for start errors and stop errors separately.

I only run one distro per hard drive for testing purposes on all my devices. I do gaming projects, office work and also surf the web and visit forums as I work for two other sites as an editor. I also use other distros but so far have never had this issue with any systemd based distro. Most of my distros shutdown very quickly including Q4OS, its scary compared to Windows.

A few days ago I watched a video on VLC. After watching the video and closing VLC (I thought) I saw VLC in the taskbar (over by the clock). I tried closing it from there and it would just minimise back to the taskbar. Even tried to shut down from terminal using the pid, didn't work. Finally I had to reboot. It took an exceedingly long time to shut down (I didn't measure it), but finally did and when Q4OS rebooted the VLC icon was gone. I do not know what caused it, or how to reproduce it.

Thats interesting, wonder what caused it. I just came from VLC after watching some videos and didnt have any issues on Scorpion. Scorpion at least on my hardware is slightly slower shutting down versus Orion but nothing huge.

Did you adjust the timeout to make it shorter? I know it doesn't stop the problem but it might at least allow quicker shutdown of the system.

It might be an idea to have a bash script that unmounts all partitions before shutdown, although I would have thought the system should do this automatically without user intervention.
I think (but haven't tested) it can be done via the systemd service file, but have just quickly looked into the systemd files and it appears the umountfs.service, umountmfs.service and umountroot.service files all point to /dev/null on my system, I wonder if this could be causing the issue? I am just guessing but if there is no service file then systemd has no information regarding what to do with mounted filesystems...

This issue really caught me by surprise as Ive got a lot of Q4OS installs on various hardware and a lot of friends and clients using it with various configurations and Ive never had this happen.

How did this happen on your system Dai?

As I put in the OP I noticed it happening a few times and traced it to partitions that had been mounted a certain way, I have not been using computers much in the past few months so haven't seen it for a while, but as Rademes is still having the same problems I guess there is no fix available yet

Going to have to setup a test system with a number of partitions and experiment.

I need to take a break as Im on computers a lot of the time outside of work.
