There was a bug (missing package) in all the Debian 9 LIVE installer iso images.
This results in a failed install. It does not affect the normal installer, just LIVE.
This has been fixed and new images are now available form normal sources.
Oooops!

There have been a lot of posts on Debian's Forum about this, I didn't think it would be too long before a fix was applied

You beat me to it bin but thanks for posting this. On some other forums there have been a lot of questions about the Debian Live installer bug.

And there are more bugs too, I would advise anybody to only use standard iso images for installing, only use the live images for testing/evaluation until there have been more improvements. I am sooooo disappointed with the live-cd images, it's almost like they just chucked them together and didn't bother to see if they worked before releasing to the public!

The live images are very bad and unfortunately you send people over to try them and this is the type of experience they get. Live cds are a big promo for Linux in attracting new users.

Judging by the state of the new "Stable" live images that might be easily done

Yes, still some bugs including not being able to use root account even if you enter root password at install time! leaving a system that cannot be administered! I think I will wait 6 months before using Stretch as it seem there are sooooo many bugs that I now consider it more of a testing version than when it was actually testing...
On the brighter side though most bugs (that affect me at least) are only on the live versions, so using the netinstall image should be less troublesome.

Bugs in the re-release....thats sad.
