Its amazing how much Debian has improved overall and its recent polling is 1(7 day) 2 on all other listings, on the Distrowatch ratings.

Yes, but that's entirely down to Stretch being released as Stable, and I would expect them figures to settle down after a while.
I was a little surprised at how badly Ubuntu was doing until I realised that all the Ubu family (xubuntu, kubuntu, lubunto etc, etc) are all listed individually, and if you add all the distros that are derivatives (like Mint which is No 1) there would be quite a gap at the top of the board, although there are also many Debian derivatives I still think Ubuntu would come out on top overall. Maybe one day I will add them up just for my own curiosity, but it will have to wait for another day.

Thats one of my pet peeves about Distrowatch as they include all the versions under Mint but separate them for Ubuntu. That makes whats happening with Debian all the more impressive. A lot of well known distros have taken a hit, particularly in the top ten.
Heres the Ubuntu versions numbers,
Ubuntu 1522
Lubuntu 468
Mate 432
Xubuntu 316
Kubuntu 241
Gnome 234
That comes to 3212 so no doubt Ubuntu would blitz Mint if they combined them.

Rankings on distrowatch shoot up for disto's with updates then settle down. thats the fantastic gift of linux, so many choices, with gifted developers working so hard to give us the best OS, I feel another donation is due.

Some distros have been very steady overtime and maintained their standing so not all swing heavily with new releases.
The above counts didnt even include Ubuntu Studio/Kylin or Budgie.
