Kdenlive

The latest version on their website of Kdenlive is 17.04.2 and the one in Q4OS Scorpion Synaptic is 16.12.2-1.
Is there anyway to get the latest and has it been checked out for Q4OS Scorpion?
Their website says for Debian to enter "sudo apt-get install kdenlive" but wouldn't that get the same one as in synaptic?

Version 1:17.04.2-dmo1 is available from the deb-multimedia repo if that's any help.

I assume the -dmo is a demo? I may give it a try anyway. Does that mean I will have to add the deb-multimedia repo?

I think the dmo is something to do with Deb-Multimedia although I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's not a demo , and you will need to add the deb-multiedia repo to install it but if you do not want to use the updated packages from deb-multimedia you can install kdenlive and then remove the repo before you next perform an upgrade. And don't forget to do an apt-get update after adding/removing any source.

As Dai says - that's not a demo it's just a way if identifying the package.

Debian Multimedia normally plays OK with Jessie/Orian but I have no idea about Stretch/Scorpion. Just installing the bare minimum from Deb Mullti is a good move.

You can also mitigate against possible future package/compatibilty issues by using 'sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends kdenlive'

That will install what you need to make it work, but will not include a lot if additional 'recommended' packages which can sometimes bring absurd dependencies. What do I mean by that? Well no-one has been able to explain why I need usb modem manager for Aisleriot solitaire. However, one of its dependencies has a recommends for that so it tries to install. Using no-reccomends gets round that sort of silliness.

Well, after doing a search for deb-multimedia repo and seeing some of the issues that have occurred with that repo, I think I don't want to take a chance. I hate to do it, but I guess I'll install kdenlive or Openshot 2.0 on the (shudder) Windows laptop until Debian get them updated to the more recent versions.

I usually have deb-multimedia installed and I am not having any issues (yet) with Scorpion. I have found they normally seem to work quite well, but I have read in other forums where users have had problems with some packages.

-dmo = Debian- multimedia.org   Jim I also run other distros that already use the newer versions and stay more updated if I do need something.on rare occasion.

Ill second Dai though so far I havent had any issues but can confirm some users have had issues.
