I still do and have many different types from large multi drive cases to small SFF units, but I also use laptops.

I'm mainly using my Laptop, but only because I had to pack my machines away to do some "renovation" work on the house, I hope to have them back up and running soon though as I do prefer to have a "proper machine" in front of me (or under the desk), and now I have a couple of server units I am dying to play more on them! I also now have an old Pi donated from a member of my local LUG that I just had a little time to get it set-up and then put it in a box out of the way from all the dust etc I also had another arduino delivered with motor shields to set up a little CNC machine in the garage, but it seems like my whole life is on hold!

Ive got much older pcs from the 90's I use for older gaming. My two full desktops I use for testing, Windows gaming and projects. Then I have an assortment of Dell Optiplex SFF pcs that I use for most of the average stuff and for special projects. I also have a couple of Vostro desktops for my wifes use. All of my primary desktops are the late socket 775 Intel boards using the last generation of Core 2 duo/quad cpus, which I find plenty for everything I do. My two personal desktops are AMD with Triple core processors in them.
Ive still got a ton of older laptops with the Dell V130 the most current hardware in the house with UEFI and i3 processor.

Well, I don't know if you would call this a desktop or a laptop or a laptop made into a desktop!
HP Omni 100
It was given to me by a friend at work after the house it was in caught on fire. Had a lot of smoke damage, but I got it cleaned up and working - except for the camera, which still gives a smoky brown picture with nothing else. I have used it for my main computer for several years now. Replacing hard drives as they went bad. Last one I had Orion on was a small laptop 500 Gig hard drive. It started filling up and I got a 1 terabyte 3 1/4 drive, like is supposed to be in it. That little laptop drive was just hanging in mid air with only the connector holding it!

Its considered a desktop even though its an all-in-one. I tend to think of desktops as tower style systems but thats changed hugely with so many different designs of desktops today.

I agree CC. I always thought of a desktop as being a tower with a separate monitor. With this thing, when you get inside you would swear it was an overgrown laptop! I think the NIC is blown on this and I'm not sure if I can replace it. WIFI adapter is the only network adapter shown under lspci. Been using WIFI since I got the thing running.

USB wifi adapters are great as i use them on some of my laptops where the Broadcom chips simply wont work.

I have a laptop (Dell VOSTRO 1520 with Q4OS Scorpion) and a netbook (Dell Inspiron mini 1012 with Q4OS Orion ) and my wife uses a newer laptop (ASUS X555U with Windows 10). We use wifi in the whole house. Except the ASUS sometimes, we have no problems with this machines.
I prefer laptops: You can use it easily on different places.

There's a lot of nonsense written about the demise of the desktop now that smartphones are so ubiquitous. The fact is, "apps" are ok for phones, but you can't get any serious work done on them in a business or industrial environment because the screen is so small. There are countless applications which require a full-sized screen (where even laptop isn't good enough), such as CAD, graphics etc, not to mention the ergonomic and power advantages of the desktop.

Thats correct! To make a good job for a whole day it is very important to have a good workingplace! In this case no tablet and often no laptop make sense!

Desktops can evolve and I use mine for many projects as well as for gaming. It gives me the ability to make incremental changes that can significantly improve my user experience or replace defective parts when needed. I run multiple drives in the same system, and can vary my setup as much as I like.
It depends a lot on how you use your tech but Ive got HTPC in my house made from Dell Optiplex SFF systems as well as servers for personal use.
I use laptops more when Im away from home and in my office at work. Only this year have I begun to use wifi at home as I prefer the more secure ethernet connections but I live in a condo so there are other considerations to deal with being in close quarters.
Totally agree Jerome as desktops are far from being obsolete and in recent articles it appears we may see the first increase in sales in quite some time in 2018.

Im really leaning toward systems like the Dell Optiplex sff or Shuttle XPC systems that can offer a lot of performance in a small package.
