Although I am not an expert, I can recommend Openshot, I built a mechanical television based on the baird system, downloaded some 30's and 40's footage from YouTube, edited it with openshot, then converted it to audio with nbtv software, the audio modulates an led and provides sync pulse, result is a tiny picture about 1 inch square.

I used the older version of openshot and it worked pretty well. Then I tried the newer 2.0 version and got terrible results. I will admit that was over a year ago, so it may have been improved by now. Sure wish they would put it in the repository for scorpion! I'll go take a look at it. May have to give it another try anyway!
Thanks CC.

Ive had a really good experience with Openshot so thought I would post the article on the newest version.
Right now Openshot 1.4.3-1.1 is in Synaptic but hopefully the newer version will be available.

1.4.3 is what I've used. Pretty good with a few "gotcha's" Like making sure to SAVE after any operation, or you can bet it will crash!

Heres their main website, www.openshot.org and they are actually up to version 2.3 which Ive tried already in Windows. Its improved quite a bit so may want to look at their Linux downloads, but I havent tried it yet.
