Latest versions of Firefox/Thunderbird

I had a few issues with the Debain package for Thunderbird as noted in this post and was surprised to see that the Thunderbird and Firefox installers (Q4OS Software Centre) only install the repository versions, unless my memory is failing (it is possible...) I thought they usually installed the newer versions from Mozilla. So my request is could the newer versions be made available from the Q4OS Software Centre?

Note: I am using Scorpion in case it's not obvious.

Yes, it's intended to make available the latest Firefox Release and Thunderbird (as usual in Q4OS) using applications installers, as the Scorpion becomes stable.

At the moment Q4OS installers provide following versions:
Orion 1.8.4
- Firefox ESR (52.1), mozilla.debian.net
- Thunderbird (45.8), regular Debian repositories
Scorpion 2.3.2
- Firefox ESR (45.9), regular Debian repositories
- Thunderbird (45.8), regular Debian repositories

I actually prefer the mail client in the Seamonkey suite over Thunderbird. Plus the whole suite is only 80ish Mb

I couldn't find it using Synaptic package manager though so ended up downloading and installing myself direct from the community site.

Works like a champ so far and as I am using it on that other OS and with IMAP its a great solution for me.

Maybe could be the default for Q4OS prior to desktop profile additions?

I think the problem with having SeaMonkey in the base installation is the fact that it cannot get updates (or security updates) as it does not have a repository available, so could at some point become a security issue, I would understand that it may be well developed and fixes might be made quickly available but it would still require the user to manually update the system. But with that said it does look like a nice and useful package, I might certainly give it a try in the near furure.

SeaMonkey checks for updates every 24 hours. If an update is available, you'll be notified.

There's an option to automatically update. [Edit > Preferences > Advance > Software Installation > Auto Updates (Daily/Weekly) and Auto Download / Install radio buttons]

You can also go to Help > Check for Updates

Quick update: to run seamonkey-2.49.4.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2 [it's under Contributed builds (other platforms)] on Q4OS x64 you will need to install the library libdbus-glib
