Hi aldrik. You have to install unrar to work with rar files.
sudo apt-get install unrar
Q4OS running Xfce

Q4OS does not have ark, it has ark-trinity. Ark is KDE application.
Ark-trinity supports only that awful unrar-free! I also had problems with it. http://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=1715#p1715
Now I unpack my rar archives either using command line, or using Krusader. Krusader fully supports unrar (non-free version by Alexander Roshal), which works very well with all rar archives.
Ark-trinity will not support unrar: http://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=4491#p4491
Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502 If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

...ahh...my bad.
@ aldrik ~ Sorry about that. I run Xfce on my Q4OS and didn't realize Trinity had a different archive management system.
@ Rademes ~ I agree, unrar-free is garbage. The install code I gave above is for the good unrar.

Hello guys
@Rademes : thank you for answer ; it's ark-trinity. I don't specify sorry. I don't undestand "awful" good thing or not ?
I'll try krusader with unrar non-free.
@MC : with mate and xfce no problem...

I would say unrar-free is really bad!
