Re: Wlan hard blocked

try:-
'sudo rfkill unblock all' or
'sudo rfkill unblock 0'

Sometimes it can help to boot into bios and do a reset to default - this does help with wifi whee there is no hardware switch.

Are any of the buttons by the power switch used to enable/disable wifi?

Re: Wlan hard blocked

Thanks for your quick reply,
rfkill commands have been done with no success, bios reset too. The wifi button does nothing since the intallation of q4os, but was functioning under xp...

Re: Wlan hard blocked

You could try to install and boot kernel 4.7:
$ qinst-kernel-bpo
please see http://www.q4os.org/dqa011.html#system.5

Re: Wlan hard blocked

Tried it with no effect. found a copy of xp, so I will try to install it again, switch the button and then reinstall q4os. i will report the results here later on.

Re: Wlan hard blocked

Hi raven. A quick search of "linux Medion laptop 40100" shows some really old posts as far back as 2003.

It looks like someone figured out a fix here: http://osdir.com/ml/linux.drivers.prism … 00209.html

In windows on this laptop a special wireless button has to be pressed to
make a special wireless led light up. After this the wireless card can
be used. Because all my attempt to make this card work in linux failed,
I suspected this behavior may be hardwired in this laptop. Because this
laptop has a lot of characteristics in common with some acer laptops I
started hacking on the acer hotkey driver. I could get it to turn on the
led on loading the module. After this the card finally responds to
iwconfig commands.

Re: Wlan hard blocked

Thanks for all your help, folks, but the problem couldn't be solved. Tried the link above but the acerhotkey drivers link didn't work anymore. Tried to find it elsewhere in first place but I've come to the conclusion that I'm better of with a wireless usb-stick and now I'm connected.
Even trying to unblock with xp got me nowhere. But the old card wouldn't be much fun anyway wink
