PCmanFM Open With Option

While using pcmanfm file manager and want to open a text file, there is no option to choose a text editor. It opens the file with LO Writer. I have both Kate & Kwrite installed but they do not appear in the "Open With" option. It seems every other program installed are listed but those two. I found how to include it with the Custom Command Line choice.

I'm just curious why are Kate & Kwrite not included by default?

Re: PCmanFM Open With Option

I just installed pcmanfm to test, and it shows kate and kwrite (as well as geany which I use most) in the right click options as shown in the pic.

Re: PCmanFM Open With Option

Interesting. Mine didn't show either one until I manually added Kwrite and now it show it but not Kate.

Thanks.

Re: PCmanFM Open With Option

Kate is hidden by default, I edited /opt/trinity/share/applications/tde/kate.desktop and changed the last line from NoDisplay=true to #NoDisplay=true (commented it out). That way kate will show in normal menu as well as other menus (ie. PcManFm context) after reboot or logout and back in again.
Although I can't explain why kwrite is not showing in your menu??? a bit strange to say the least...

Re: PCmanFM Open With Option

Commenting 'NoDisplay=true to #NoDisplay=true' did not work. I did logout/login and reboot, Kate still doesn't appear in the Open With menu.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: PCmanFM Open With Option

Have you tried removing and re-installing? Sometimes this can resolve issues. I would do a sudo apt-get --purge remove pcmanfm to ensure everything is removed and then the installation should be fresh.

Re: PCmanFM Open With Option

I did remove and reinstalled pcmanfm and no changes. I even renamed ~/.config/pcmanfm directory, it created a new one and no change. But, it seems this is an issue using Openbox. I looked using the wife's logon profile and pcmanfm does show Kwrite & Kate under the Open With -> Other menu option.

I still can't figure why it doesn't show under Openbox, looks like most other programs are listed. No big deal, just curious why those are not.

Thanks for the help!

Re: PCmanFM Open With Option

I usually try and use the default (or near to it) system for my "working" installation so that could explain why I didn't see it. I might give openbox a try one day as I used to like it with #! smile
