no icedtea plugin for java 8

I have just upgraded java to version 8 but there is no icedtea plugin for it. When I go to install 'icedtea-plugin' apt-get tries to install the old version of java. I found a bug report about this here :

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1385842

Any suggestions?

Re: no icedtea plugin for java 8

Package icedtea-8-plugin is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'icedtea-8-plugin' has no installation candidate

Re: no icedtea plugin for java 8

Unfortunately, 'icedtea-8-plugin' package is not available from Debian nor Debian-backports repositories at the moment. There is a chance, it will be included in backports sooner or later, as the java-8 is already included. The only suggestion now is to use 'java-7' and 'icedtea-7-plugin' from regular Debian repositories.

Ok, thanks. I guess I can live without it for a while.

Yeah, this bug's been around a while.  There are some 3rd parties that have made the package available to install if you trust them (I don't), but otherwise you're stuck with Java7 plugin.
