Last night I installed KDM through Synaptic. Booted up and everything works fine. I installed the theme but don't know how to change it

Really? No one? Well, anyway, I would like to know if KDM3 themes are compatible with KDM4.

Also can I install KDE3 on Q4os?

Sorry ThisGuy1996, I can't help you. However, it is the weekend and the people who can may be busy. I know you would like to hurry and get it working the way you want, but give it a couple of days and others may answer your question. Other than that, I hope you are enjoying Q4OS!

Thank you for the quick reply!

if you run sudo kcmodules --unblock you will have access to all the configuration tools so then you can change pretty much everything.
Do not install KDE4 stuff on Q4OS
Q4OS *IS* KDE3 - please read the documentation provided on the web site - it is Debian Jessie with Trinity Desktop that has been modified by the developers of Q4OS. Trinity is an ongoing project to maintain and improve KDE 3.5. Have a look at their site for more info - look for Trinity Desktop.

Wow! Thanks! I had no idea! I thought I was using KDE4 this whole time! Thank you!

If I can some how find a way to install KDM Display Manager 3, that would make my day.

I can't seem to find a KDM 3.5 package anywhere. Any chance you might know where one is?
Offline
I don't know if this will help but there is a kdm-trinity package that could be what you want.

Thanks! I'll check it out.

I installed it but don't know how to switch to it.

I can't help with that sorry, I don't use it I just noticed it in the repos.
Edit: Do you get an option on the login screen ?

That didn't work.

Okay so I ran in the Konsole:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm
pkg-query: package 'kdm' is not installed and no information is available
Use dpkg --info (= dpkg-deb --info) to examine archive files,
and dpkg --contents (= dpkg-deb --contents) to list their contents.
/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: kdm is not installed

Perhaps, you should wait for Q4OS Team. Performing such manipulations you can damage entire system and will be forced to reinstall it. Also multiposting is not good idea, please use [Edit] button if you want to add more information to your message.
Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502 If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

if you installed kdm-trinity then the dpkg-reconfigure should reference the same package e.g sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm-trinity.
The installation of kdm would have/should have raised a dialogue box asking which DM you wanted to use as default - unless you didn't have one in the first place and were starting from a command line usng startx.
Having said that I am beginning to wonder what you have installed. Q4OS installs KDM. Did you install from the live-cd or install image. The install image is the smaller of the 2 listed on the download page. I'd suggest you go back and get the live CD which will install all you are looking for and help you understand the layout of Trinity/Q4OS/KDE 3.5

@bin
Thank you for your helpful and valuable posts. The only comment is Q4OS installs 'kdm-trinity' by default.
@ThisGuy1996
You could install KDE4 display manager 'kdm', however we wouldn't recommend it. The better choice is 'lightdm' . You can select it as default by:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm

Thank you - it most certainly does. I should have been more precise as we are indeed dealing with different generations of KDE. That is what lead to my concern as to exactly what ThisGuy1996 has actually got installed. kdm-trinity allows for a lot control in terms of appearance, persitent login, auto re-login after crash etc. hence my puzzlement.

... Q4OS installs 'kdm-trinity' by default. ...
Not correct, the right package name is 'tdm-trinity', sorry for the mistake.

Oh Okay Thank you @q4osteam, @bin, @Rademes, and @Dai_Trying. I'll look for Lightdm.
So there is no KDM 3.5 package at all? The theme I want to use is compatible with KDM3 only. It doesn't work with other display managers correctly. (In order to test this, I used virtual box). I'm testing before I used it on my actual Linux laptop.

What theme is it you want to use? I could have a look and see if I could port it to q4os when I have some spare time.

Wow! That would be awesome if you could do that! I'd really appreciate that:)
For the KDM theme, This is included in the filesystem/usr/share/apps/kdm/ it should be there.

For a GDM theme: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … tent=53906
Thank You!
I already tried GDM3, but the theme didn't work. Said it was missing a gtk.css file.
