Exactly. Claiming that a major upgrade of Debian, Ubuntu, or any other OS is risk-free is simply not true. At most, you can say it is 'generally' reliable and officially supported, but you cannot honestly guarantee it.
Saying a major dist-upgrade is safe is to confuse the statistical reliability of the process with the absence of risk... It’s quite telling that Debian itself recommends, for important upgrades, making a full backup, and even now suggests as a precaution trying an upgrade in QEMU before touching the actual machine.
Debian & Q4OS (TDE!!), low-level C, ASM (z80/68k/x86/ARM64), embedded systems, CPU architectures (RISC-V, binary formats, assembly), retro-computing, metal music, guitar and sci-fi.
