Sad day for Firefox

https://www.osnews.com/story/144027/moz … i-browser/

I've been using FF since the days of the 0. releases . I have nothing against AI, it has its uses, but it has to be my choice when to use it. FF have made some really bad decisions along the way. I have found more an more sites that just do not work right with FF and it is now relegated to one or two specific tasks.

Sad sad

Re: Sad day for Firefox

Tried FF 10 years ago and pages were broken.. even today some pages are broken, back then some antivirus installed a malware called "chrone" browser in win7, which somehow corrupted all the data.. but soon enough i discovered chromium and been using it since.. Edge ~112 used to work great on windows 7, especially it's pdf viewer, and ungoogled-chromium works fantastically on both win10 and linux distros, no ai crypto bs, no google bs, it just does what it needs to do, and it does so perfectly.

You should give ungoogled-chromium a try~ if it feels a little too "complex" then look at helium browser, it's still in beta but definitely more user friendly (and heavier than original ungoogled-chromium) smile

The Firefox AI is "opt-in".  You do not have to use it.  Even DuckDuckGo has an AI.  It's "opt-in" as well.

Re: Sad day for Firefox

FWIW, I use FF on a daily basis and have yet to experience such widespread breakage... Every now and then I cross some obscure page that doesn't work but that is kind of normal and expectable, IMHO. Banking sites are the more regular culprits but I'm afraid that's by design and server-sided.

Re: Sad day for Firefox

Firefox is still my browser.

Sad to see it struggling --- but it's still reliable..

Re: Sad day for Firefox

Try one of the many Firefox forks: LibreWolf, WaterFox, Floorp, Mullvad Browser, Zen Browser. They do not have AI built in.

I use Firefox Nightly and am quite happy with it.

Re: Sad day for Firefox

I've been using it regularly for years and haven't noticed any problems.  I did switch to Chrome or Chromium for the Ventoy persistence plugin, just because Ventoy itself is werd and I thought perhaps it could be the brower.  For those who don't know, Ventoy has a browser based configuration tool.  I find it weird because you do not have to press enter to confirm your configuration information Ventoy just uses it instantly which I think is poor.,

Re: Sad day for Firefox

I use Zen as my daily browser and Firefox as a secondary browser.  As others have said, the AI add-ons are opt-in, and if you're absolutely sure you'll never want them, Firefox and Zen at least have the option in their settings to disable ALL AI add-ons, so that even if you ATTEMPT to activate one it won't work.

Re: Sad day for Firefox

I currently use zen browser which is a fork of Firefox. I am about to install Q4OS on a client's devices as it is the OS that most closely matches their migratory needs. They have an Epson printer. In readiness for the migration, I visited the official Epson Driver page to download said driver, first in zen browser, but when I clicked on Download it filled the screen with the driver code. I had to use Chromium in the end to get the tarball to download. Have just checked with Firefox and it behaves in exactly the same way.

This is a problem with the Epson web site and javascript I'm afraid.
When the page fills with code all you have to do is go to File>Save Page As and it then shows the file name as one would expect with the normal download process.
https://www.theregister.com/2026/04/30/ … t_googles/ shows an interesting angle on Mozilla's stance on AI.
However it still does not alter the issues with sites that just will not work with *fox for 'reasons'
Actually these days I use Waterfox anyway.
