Been loving q4os but sometimes I need packages which are not available in Debian repos, and the developers do not package them. But they do have a personal package repo, i can manually downloading deb from the ppa and install them on q4os, but it requires quite some hit and trial, and I need to manually update them.. which in most cases doesn't work. alternatively, compiling them manually is always an option.. but spending whole day to compile an app on my old laptop is painful so I wanna avoid it, plus, as a student, I can't afford to spend so much time just updating the apps.
So I've been considering Ubuntu based distros like mint and quarkos. Since quarkos is pretty similar to Q4OS, I'd prefer if i could stick to it. I've noticed that QuarkOS 24.04 r4 is out.
1. What's new in the r4? Do i still need to update 2.1gb worth of packages just after installing? (It seemed to be the case last time I tried it)
2. What version of trinity Desktop does it use?
3. Does it have the Trinity bugs from q4os 6? (posted in support section, such as various applications internal crashes: kdesktop, touchpad module)
4. Does it work without snapd?
5. Are ppa supported?
6. R3 release post shows 273mb ram with Trinity, is this still true with r4?
7. Does it get support/updates from q4osteam as frequently as Q4OS? If i have issues, am i allowed to post here?
8. Does it get all software updates from Ubuntu's repo?
9. What would I be losing if i move from q4os to quark os?
10. Would it be faster than Q4OS?
