My newest project is a 2016 MacBook9,1 - a gorgeous machine with a gorgeous screen, 8 GB of RAM, and 512 GB SSD. Plenty of power for Plasma.
Best of all? No fan. The precursor, of course, to the M1 MacBook Airs.
I'm not expecting anyone here to have any answers, as some of these issues are documented on ArchWiki:

In short, everything mostly works. WiFi works out of the box. The screen really is gorgeous. The keyboard and touchpad are fine - though sensitive. Battery life is decent.
What doesn't work?
- No speakers. There is a custom driver for it. You need to make a slight modification of the script for it to compile. Testing it now.
- Bluetooth doesn't work. There should be a driver. I haven't bothered yet, since I turn off Bluetooth anyway. The driver is not in the Debian packages.
- Sleep is a problem. I've fiddled around with it. Appears to be a NVME issue. After I wake the screen (pre-fix), I could see the cursor and maybe a window (like terminal). If I close that window, it's just a black screen with the cursor. Nothing else responds. I found a purported fix, and I think it works. WiFi seems extra slow after I wake it from sleep though.
The short of it - I may reinstall MacOS, even though it too would have issues. Will keep tweaking to see what adjustments can be made.
