Trixie is due to be released August 9th ... what about Q4OS?

Hi to everyone.  Hope someone from the Q4OS team can reply here.  Debian Trixie is due to be out on August 9th.

How soon can users (or potential users such as myself) expect Q4OS to release an updated ISO after Trixie comes out?

A week?  A month?  Thanks.

We assume in about a month. Meantime, you can download Q4OS-6 testing version

Thank you!  Appreciate the quick response, too.

Hold on a second.  One more question, please.  Is this version stable enough for daily use?

Also, what happens when the final release is made?  Will everything automatically get updated?

When I say "updated," I mean that the testing version becomes the stable version on its own.  Thanks.

I can understand "no" about the daily use part.  That's reasonable; no problem.  But why "no" about Q4OS testing not getting automatically updated?  Debian on its own (when people use the testing ISO or whatever) gets updated to stable.  Why not Q4OS?  I'm sorry; am I missing something?  And just to be clear - does Q4OS stable get updated from version to version, or do people have to reinstall Q4OS all over again every time a major version comes out?  Thanks.

The upgrade is possible, but we don't recommend it. There could be hidden issues in testing OS what pass quietly through the upgrade. Fresh installation ensures utter cut-off from the testing system. We wouldn't recommend such testing to stable upgrade for any Debian based distro including Debian itself for the same reasons.

Got it. Thanks. But what about my other question? Can Q4OS be upgraded from stable to stable (e.g., going from 5 to 6)?

It's possible, but we don't recommend it for similar reasons, see https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4323 Most of libraries, tools and applications would pass major upgrade, so it could mess with the original obsolete configurations. Such conditions can lead to crashes or worse, if an inconsistency silently waits quite a long time and unexpectedly appears later.

just wondering.. would Q4OS 6 upgrade to newer TDE version when it comes out.. or would it be stuck at 14.1.4?

It will most likely keep 14.1.5, however it might receive most important fixes from the future releases.

A month is pretty good for release of Q4OS 6,as some other Debian based distros are looking at longer timelines.

Re: Trixie is due to be released August 9th ... what about Q4OS?

@q4osteam  version 5.8, would it be LTS?

The new version 6 includes Wayland for Plasma, right?
Does Trinity maintain x11 or can it also be used with the new graphics server?
I don't want to change or upgrade now that I've gotten my PC to its optimal state and want to squeeze the most out of the Q40S.xD

@josek
- Yes, LTS with 5 years of standard support.
- Yes, Plasma/Wayland and Plasma/X11 and Trinity/X11.
- Trinity/X11 only.
- It's more than reasonable to keep Q4OS 5.8 if you have configured it and it's working fine for you smile It will be supported for another 3 years until June 2028.

Hello and good day. Many thanks to the Q4OS team for their work. You mentioned that Q4OS 6 will be released in about a month — I'm really looking forward to it. Will it then be possible to use qrepoadd --gui again to integrate the MX Tools?

Welcome to the forum smile
Yes, MX tools for Q4OS-6 will be available with a small delay after the Q4OS-6 stable release. The preferred way to install it is using dedicated installer, see
https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3477
https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/f … ntal_apps/
however "qrepoadd" tool will work too.

Will Q4OS-6 release coincide with end of support for Q4OS-4 (I mean availability of updates for Update manager)?

Edit:
Sorry, just found the answer here: https://www.q4os.org/downloads3.html

Re: Trixie is due to be released August 9th ... what about Q4OS?

Thank you very much. ?? I’ve used both methods. Many thanks!

For several months now, I've been using Q4OS 5. At the moment, I'm testing a few things on Q4OS 5 up to Q4OS 6.

It will soon become my permanent operating system for both PC and laptop. I’ll also recommend it to my neighbor for his older PC.

I’ve now found my ideal OS. Q4OS is stable, fast, and works flawlessly with the tools I need.

I'm currently testing S4 Snapshot, and I’m very satisfied. Apt-clone is also a wonderful program that works very well under Q4OS.

I’ve tried the Q4OS 6 testing versions and I’m very impressed by their stability.

I’ve installed all the programs I will need later, and they work perfectly.

Wine will probably work just as well in Q4OS 6 as it does in Q4OS 5.

I’m waiting for the official release of Q4OS 6.

Many thanks to the Q4OS team for that.

May Q4OS be with us. Live Long and Prosper.?
