Q4OS 6 testing alpha

We have just released Q4OS 6 "alpha-r9", Plasma and Trinity versions. There are a few known bugs to be fixed, but it is inevitably heading towards a more stable beta version.

Download from our testing repository https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/files/testing/ . Testing and reporting is welcome.

Re: Q4OS 6 testing alpha

Installed Basic on my 11yr old Acer Chromebook R11 without issue. Wayland seems to run smother than X11. I have not experienced and issues so far. My use case is light, watch TV thru HDHomeRun using MPV, Google Sheets, and Chrome browsing and email. Excellent job. Definitely runs better on this older hardware than 5.8 Aquarius Plasma.

Re: Q4OS 6 testing alpha

@noseph, if the R11 has the celeron processor and only 2gb ram, no doubt the TDE version will run better. 4gb of ram though with a i3 or better, Plasma runs very well.

Re: Q4OS 6 testing alpha

The R11 has 4gb of ram and 32gb of storage. I have been running Q4OS Plasma on it since it went end of support on ChromeOS (~3yr now).

Celeron N3150, actually runs fairly snappy on 6.

Re: Q4OS 6 testing alpha

Once the Q4OS 6 final comes out, I dont think you would have any issue running the Plasma version, not that you need to though.

Re: Q4OS 6 testing alpha

Youre running TDE which already has lightweight resource usage. Plasma will probably run fine as well but with the final, I think it will run more stable and a bit lighter than an alpha/beta.

Re: Q4OS 6 testing alpha

You have made the wrong assumption I installed "q4os-6.0-x64-plasma.r9-testing-alpha.iso" from the link in the initial post.

Re: Q4OS 6 testing alpha

Sorry I missed that in post #4 nojoseph,as I sometimes read too fast for my own good. Glad to see that Plasma 6 runs well on your hardware.

Re: Q4OS 6 testing alpha

Just been testing TDE alpha 9 in Virtualbox.

The only thing that jumps out is the default cursor size which seems to be a bit on the small side.

Swapping to my favourite DMZ-White and it is the 'normal' size.

Re: Q4OS 6 testing alpha

Just a quick update. It has been 2 weeks since I installed Q4OS6 Alpha r9 Plasma on my Acer Chromebook R11. I have not experienced any failures, and the system continues to run smoothly. The system did have several updates in the past week, I assume the r10 patches. Great job guys.

I also installed Alpha r10 Plasma on a spare ThinkCentre M73, it is also running flawlessly.
