Help with Install of Free10 along with Ubuntu Studio

I installed Ubuntu Studio on my laptop on an older HD drive. Ubuntu Studio worked fine but had a slow startup. I then installed Free10 on a SSD drive on the same computer.  When I installed Free10, I got an error message stating something about grub. I honestly don't remember exactly what was said because the error message disappeared almost as quickly as it popped onto the screen. The Ubuntu Studio still boots up to the Grub menu and Free10 is seen on the Grub menu, but when I try to go to the Free10 operating system via the grub menu an error message of:

error: bad shim signature.
error:you need to load the kernal first.
Press any key to continue....

I can still boot into Ubuntu Studio and everything works fine in Ubuntu Studio. I just can't boot into Free10.  If we can fix this, I would also like to have Free10 be the default operating system in Grub to boot up instead of being listed at the bottom of the Grub menu.

I appreciate your assistance with this matter

Re: Help with Install of Free10 along with Ubuntu Studio

XPQ4, Free10, FreeXP are not part of Q4OS and and are not maintained by Q4OS developers. Their homepage is at https://xpq4.sourceforge.io/ and it seems it is difficult to get help from their developers.

I googled for you and I've found a lot of pages related to the "bad shim signature / you need to load the kernel first" error. It is seems related to Secure boot. You should disable it. See for example https://www.jdhodges.com/blog/bad-shim- … st-solved/.

It is not clear if your SSD is an internal or external (USB ?) drive. If it is an external one, then I would suggest you to look carefully at an option (it should be on the "Partitioning" screen) to choose where the bootloader needs to be installed, provided Fee10 installer works the same way as Q4OS installer does.

You can also search on this forum with "XPQ4" as keyword.

@dMan
We can recommend you to use Q4OS with Lookswitcher's Win10 theme. If you need an assistance with Q4OS just ask here.
