Hello everyone there,
Please, I would appreciate anything you can do to help me resolve this sudden issue:
My laptop is an old Acer Aspire 5715Z - Intel Pentium dual-core processor T2370 1,73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache, 2 GB DDR2, 15,4" WXGA ACER CristalBrite LCD (8ms/220-nit). I am on Q4OS 5.7 Aquarius.
I was enjoying Spotify without any problems for several days. I closed the app and started it again the next day properly frequently with any problem. I stopped accessing it for a couple of days and when I tried to start it again, I was unable to do so. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it but it was unsuccessful, both starting it from the GUI or from the Terminal.
Here is what is displayed in the terminal:

Sorry,... I am not very computer savvy.
Thank you for any help you can give me in this regard.

Looks like the Intel video driver is having an issue, specifically video acceleration. Were there any updates for your system recently and are all drivers up to date in regards to the Intel Graphics? Something changed over those few days before this happened.

Hi Crosscourt.
Thank you very much for answering me.
I will review what you tell me regarding whether there are any updates for my system recently and also if all drivers are up to date in regards to the Intel Graphics.
There has not been any change that I have noticed in those few days changed over those few days before this happened.
What I find extremely strange is that it had been working very well, without any downtime, in the previous days.
Thanks a lot for your help!
I will see and report back.

1. Given the error message, you could first check if this file really exists:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/intel-vaapi-driver/iHD_drv_video.so
2. Since that seems to be related to video acceleration, maybe you have enabled it (even inadvertently)?
3. To exclude user settings problem, you could create a new user account, log in into it and try to use spotify from this fresh account.
4. To exclude hardware / installation problems, if you are on a 64bit system, you could boot from a live image, install flatpak / spotify and see if it works from there.
5. Regarding uninstall / reinstall this flatpak app, is there an option to uninstall and erase configuration files at the same time (like what the --purge options does with apt)? If such an option exists, use it before reinstalling.

I noticed that both the Intel VAAPI and Mesa updated with Q4OS so that may have caused an issue but have no way to check it.

Looking around the net it appears others are also having issues with Spotify on older hardware such as the Intel X3100 graphics.

- What was the last date you are sure Spotify was working properly ?
. What date did Spotify start failing ?
@crosscourt
We are not aware of any Q4OS updates regarding VAAPI and Mesa in last days. Could you please specify which packages were updated and approximately when ?

Sorry I didnt see your post right away. I received both a Intel VAAPI and an update to Mesa yesterday on my Q4OS 5.7 KDE install using Discover for the download.
Im sorry to say I did not notice the version number but Ill see if I can come with it.
Note: It appears Im using Mesa 22.3.6 and Intel VAAPI 23.11+ds1-1 drivers. So not sure what that was yesterday but it was definitely an update to those two drivers. Could it have been a security/bug fix?
The issues with Spotify though with older hardware do exist and many have had issues with updates of Spotify.

You may also need to update the package:
$ flatpak update com.spotify.Client
$ sudo flatpak update com.spotify.Client
Check for the missing file:
$ dpkg -S iHD_drv_video.so
$ ls -l /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so
and post the output

According to what was posted, what should I do now?
Thanks!

The info you posted looks well.
... i do not remember the exact date on which Spotify was working properly
We only need the latest date you are sure about. So please specify:
- What was the last date you are sure Spotify was working properly ? The last day you are sure.
- What date did Spotify start failing ? The first day you are sure.
as we need to check for possible system updates, that may cause the issue.

Ok, I just requested this information to Spotify. They informed that it could delay about 5 days. I will post this information here as soon i received it. Thanks for your help....!

You don't seem to understand what we need. We need information about your system. When was your system working properly, the lastest day you're sure? When did it start to fail?

I understood your request. My problem is that after the issue ocurred, while I was trying to solve this problem by looking through some internet forums, which took me hours on different days, I started listening to Spotify using my Smartphone and I remember the playlist I was listening to when the failure occurred.
With my smartphone I started listening to another playlist, so if Spotify tells me the history of my listenings, I can tell you how long Spotify worked well on my laptop. I'm sorry, over the years my memory of recent events has worsened a lot and I can't determine it by reflecting on it.
thanks for all...!

Thanks for the info. Well, we will wait for a reply as it's also important in the path to puzzle out the issue. We can't reproduce it, Spotify works fine here, so it seems to be hardware dependent.
We would also recommend you to report the issue directly to Spotify devs as it may be specific to flatpak Spotify release.

Ok, we stayed like this, then.
Thank you very much for your help and for understanding my difficulties.
Kind regards.

From previous posts, it seems that spotify is looking for i965_drv_video.so in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/intel-vaapi-driver/
although it is in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/
You could try to create in the latter a intel-vaapi-driver/ subdirectory and create there a symlink to i965_drv_video.so

@hchiper
That might be a clue, however it's strange Spotify worked fine for him before.

I think its more likely that something changed in that period a few weeks ago that caused the issue. It could also be Spotify screwed up.

That would be our guess.

I also think so now: in the meantime I could find on the web many pages from December about
"libva error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/intel-vaapi-driver/iHD_drv_video.so init failed"
Some posts suggest to downgrade Spotify version.

Excuse my poor knowledge about what you tell me here...
Could you please guide me for, in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/, how to create a intel-vaapi-driver/ subdirectory and create there a symlink to i965_drv_video.sodo it?
Thanks

MFR, make sure you read thru all posts. It might be easier to follow hchipers advice in trying an older version of Spotify.
