OOTB Essential Basic Tools & Apps?

* I don't know if this topic already ask before, so i just open this post...please me...

For future Q4OS release please add some Essentials Basic Functional Tools & Apps Out Of The Box so any Noobs like me will have q4os already "Ready to use to work with -out of the box- after fresh Installation", then nomore confuse or guess why or where are this functions etc...

This list for needed Apps, maybe less or more, everybody is pleased to add .. :

- Blueman
- P7zip/Ark or any Archieving Tool
- Browser (in basic profiler)
- Synaptic
- Flatpak
- PDF Viewer
- Screenshoot
- GDebi
- Appimage launcher
- Timeshift
- GParted
-.. etc..

Yes i know all can easily just Install "later", but I think if it's already included OOTB will be more easier to use for common or noobs user like me.

I prefer to pick and choose myself but with a full desktop profile you already get a browser in KDE. Synaptic should be there but everything else can probably left to the user.

Full desktop not included that basic blueman etc (I've tried both kde & tde), and u need to more focus that I've mentioned about this is for "noobs" user friendly that they (including me) maybe don't know what to do after login to new fresh ootb installation.
So you are expert already? then this isn't for u.

Btw, you've mentioned about pclos in other post, then I take a look and I get they also have trinity version in their community release, that's interesting, will like to try...
U have use pclos right? I want to ask u a question ; pclos don't use "sudo"?

Bluetooth backend and framework are part of the Full profile for both Q4OS TDE as well as KDE. It wouldn't be much useful to install Blueman in KDE, as Plasma has own applet for Bluetooth. Q4OS wants to avoid superfluous software to keep itself lean and fast.

Flatpak is part of the Full profile for both TDE and KDE. It's not included in the Basic profile for those who want Flatpak free system.

Ok maybe I've missed with KDE, now i use TDE, and I have tried full profil before and install blueman, then I don't kow why BT couldn't recognize and found any devices, but at the 4th fresh installation i'd choose basic/live, then install blueman and it's work.
I think I need to mention that lists more to TDE. And that's why i love q4os for more! That TDEpowersave is PERFECT! The Memory consumption (3xxM) SUPER! +mx tools is a HUGE BONUS FEATURE! B)
None other distros (I've tried MUCH) that have Trinity work so lovely rich & snappy like q4os did to TDE! Please never leave TDE and keep give +more feature & improvement to TDE because Q4OS's TDE is my Unbeatable daily now! smile

I agree, but I think add those some Essential basic tools won't get much bloat.

We understand, but for some users Flatpak, GDebi, Appimage launcher, Timeshift, GParted, etc.. may be useless bloatware. Those who want such applications can easily install them, that's the Q4OS approach.

Re: OOTB Essential Basic Tools & Apps?

VegasLInuxQ4 I also run PCLinuxOS Debian KDE and yes they do have a community release with Trinity thatI havent tried recently. Your other question is about sudo and yes they dont use sudo nor systemd.

I agree with the devs, its mostly bloatware that should be installed by those who want it.

It's an approach that fits perfectly my needs: I have an SSD with one small partition for the system and a big one for users data, so it is preferable to have not too many packages installed by default to avoid wasting disk space (I choose the Basic install then I installed apps and packages to fit my needs and there is room left, just in case).

Re: OOTB Essential Basic Tools & Apps?

I think right now the full desktop profile is just right, not too much, not too little and offers a good mix of apps. Synaptic is the only one I think should be included as its essential for users with a new install, even though the Q4OS software center has many good apps.
