Dolphin file manager has striped sidebar navigation panel for folders, because it uses "window normal background" and "view alternate background" colors. Changing "window normal" makes the windows blend in with the contents views. Or changing "view alternate" stripes other content views. It should use both colors of either, choose wether it is a window or a view. Preferably view, as it should be the contents view, rather than the window around it. Places appears to be all "window normal background". That partially explains all the monochromatic color themes (mostly gray to black) that the window and view just blend together.
