Any chance that there could be a systemd-free version? It would make the OS even lighter than it already is.

@swarfendor437: better correct your post subject for clarity, "systems" doesn't make much sense...
And I'd be interested in that, too -- but considering the current systemd integration depth & breadth, I don't see much hope.
Alternatively, a recipe for Q4OS Trinity setup over Devuan would be equally appreciated.

Did you try setup Q4OS on Devuan this way ? https://www.q4os.org/dqa017.html

If you like devuan and TDE then you might want to look at exegnu - it's devuan with Trinity Desktop https://exegnulinux.net/ This does not include any Q4OS goodies.

Not really, no. It must have slipped my attention. I will then ASAP. Thanks.

Downloaded it once but never tested -- probably because of the latter...

Thought I'd give this a whirl using Deviuan netinstall as a starting point to get a clean system.
Running in virtualbox using legacy partition layout (not GPT)
Netinstall ran exactly the same as a normal Debian CLI install.
When setting up the user, bypass the setting of the root password - this then disables the root account and so stuff can run under sudo as normal.
When you're asked about the desktop environment uncheck everything except the bottom item - standard system utilities.
Follow the installer through - if you've never done a Debian CLI install then this is a good time to learn. The disk partitioning side is an acquired taste. Just look at what you're doing and think before pressing the button
Once you've got the basic system running you do need to install gnupg via command line.
Then just follow the instructions provided bu the Q4OS support team above.
You wind up with a Q4OS Plasma desktop.
Couple of things for Q4OS Team:-
Please can you script the setting of default SDDM to Breeze. On Devuan you get a white screen with a password box which is from devuan and may confuse....
Secondly do you think you could find a way to make all the additional noto fonts a selectable option please? It's a real pain having to go through and dump about 200 mb of unwanted cjk font stuff.....
Other than that it all seemed to work very well - so thanks for that. I'll try it on a laptop some time to se how it goes in hardware.

@bin
Thanks for the feedback, we will check the glitches you mentioned.

Today I have tried the same with an Acer Aspire 6930G laptop - venerable but very functional.
Install went as expected - until we got to the network detection where it wanted to download a file registry.db or provide from media.
I just hit continue (actually I think it was No - on the right of the screen) and it took me through to configuring the wireless network having picked up the SSID OK - it runs an Intel 5100 card with iwlwifi and the Q4OS install all ran quite happily. That was saved over the final reboot.
By default running Plasma Wayland on the Nvidia 9600M GT chip
The only puzzle I have is that I have wifi - but the system tray network utility says 'No Wireless' . Now, I can browse the web, ping stuff etc etc so I do disagree with that.
If I down and up ifconfig it dumps the dhcp address and gets a new one - so it works for sure.
nmtui just shows eth0 - which is not connected and nmcli does at least show the wifi - but as unmanaged.
I think I'll try running a normal devuan KDE install and see what happens out of interest.

OK so I installed a full devuan version via netinstall.
The wifi system tray issue does not occur - everything works as expected.
another thing I had noted in the Q4OS over devuan install was that sound was always muted on start up.
In the full devuan only version it is not.
The issue with SDDM is also there with the full devuan version. If you go to settings the Breeze SDDM them is already highlighted, but you have to re-select it and apply to get it to work. It's almost as if it is not properly attached to the use config.
The devuan version 'seems' to be running at about 150mb ram higher than straight Q4OS Debian, but as it installs kmail and loads of other unwanted stuff it may well be possible to reduce that.

Thanks bin, for all your insight (and hand-holding) on how to do this -- it'll surely be a life saver for noobs like myself.
