Switched to Q4OS and liking it very much so far.

Hi from the Netherlands (so please excuse some language goof-ups tongue) ,

Even though I've registered with this forum 2 years ago, I've started using Q4OS "for real"  last week. So as far as this distro is concerned, I'm a noob! wink

First of, how I use linux.
I don't install on an internal HDD or SSD. I use a usb SSD for portability. Comes in handy when I'm over at my parent's and want to do some computer work there or help my dad out with his computer. And I always have my data with me cause the usb SSD is small enough to take with me. 1 part is for linux, 1 exfat partition is for my data.

Couple of week ago my wife got me a new laptop as my old Dell Latitude (Intell based) was slowly dying. The new one is a Lenovo Ideapad 1 with AMD Ryzen 7 onboard. My MX install didn't play nice with the lenovo. Didn't recognize the soundcard (due to pipewire maybe?) and had issues with the wireless card. Even with a new kernel the issues remained.  So looking for a solution but also thinking about trying out a new distro.

Tried out a new MX install, AntiX, Debian, Opensuse Tumbleweed & Slowroll, EndavourOS, Sparky and PCLinuxOS. The latter I liked because it had the snapshot option like MX and is rolling release. Could have been a "never look back" install. However, had the same issues as MX. I started browsing the net again, distrowatch, foss sites and reddit. Found out dat Q4OS also has a snapshot option with the S4 Snapshot! Nice! big_smile

Downloaded it on Friday, installed it yesterday and tweaked it this morning. Works like a charm! Had handbrake, goodvibes, opera etc working out of the box, playing nice with wireless and soundcard (even dedicated volume keys worked right away). Only 1 piece of software not able to install yet and that's easymp3gain. But I'll be fine without that one.

I've installed the plasma version of Q4OS and installed XFCE4 desktop. Worked with XFCE for many years and like it very much. It feels like a old pair of comfy slippers you don't wanna do without... cool
I have the standard taskbar on top, with Whisker menu in stead of the standard menu. And a second taskbar on the left with starters for my most used packages.

Wanted to post a screenshot of my desktop, but not allowed (yet?) to post links. hmm

So, greetings from the Netherlands and a big thank you to the Q4OS team for this great distro.

And as it's already December: Happy Holidays to you all!

Grtz,
Frank
