Hello, everyone.
I want to install Q4OS on my Windows 10 laptop.
I run the installer I downloaded from the website, it downloads for a few minutes and when it starts "extracting"
I get an error message:
(btw, how can I post an image? It doesn't let me...)
Can someone tell me what is going on?
I haven't been able to find anything about that in Google.
Many thanks in advance.

Would you post the installation log file please ? The full path is something like C:\Users\YourWindowsName\AppData\Local\Temp\wubi-20.04-rev342.1.log

There it is.

This issue seems to be related to Windows 10 bug https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/window … ssues/1776 . You can easily test that, run Windows command shell as administrator and issue command:
mountvol X: /s
and post the output here. The command should map the EFI partition as X: drive. It may be blocked by some antivirus or another security software too.

It says the parameter is incorrect.

Yes, the message "The parameter is incorrect." confirms a Windows bug as mentioned above and it's the cause of Q4OS installation fail. This command works on Windows 10 normally. You can try to switch some security software off to unblock mounting the EFI partition and check the command again. As the command passes correctly, Q4OS would install fine. Unfortunately, we are not able to reproduce the issue and so investigate it properly. We would appreciate, if you report more findings, if available.
EDIT:
Do you have Windows installed in UEFI bios mode ?

Yes.
Even with Security disabled, it says the same. No other Antivirus is running.

Does this mean it boots off UEFI?

Not sure, use the following method to determine, if Windows booted in the UEFI or BIOS mode https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/851 … -bios.html

Yes, it boots off UEFI.
So, I don't understand. Some Windows PCs have the bug but others not...?

Okay, so I guess nothing can be done for the situation.
It's a pity because I wanted to give this OS a try.
What's more, I tried installing parallel to Win10 on my laptop and somehow it did not install the grub. It was nowhere to be found.
I don't know if I did something wrong. I guess not because I've been playing with Linux for 14 years now.
Anyway, thanks for the help.
Keep up the good work.

Likely for some configurations, or hardware configurations, this bug shows up.

The grub may be installed, you may need to invoke the UEFI boot menu. For some computers, firmware forces the Windows bootloader to be the only in the boot list, which means by default, you won't see Q4OS entry when you boot your computer. Your computer will instead continue to boot into Windows and it will appear, that nothing has in fact happened. To boot into Q4OS, restart computer and press the function key to pull up the boot menu. The following list provides the function keys for common computer manufacturers:
Acer - Esc, F9, F12
ASUS - Esc, F8
Compaq - Esc, F9
Dell - F12
EMachines - F12
HP - Esc, F9
Intel - F10
Lenovo - F8, F10, F12
NEC - F5
Packard Bell - F8
Samsung - Esc, F12
Sony - F11, F12
Toshiba - F12
You need to tap the function key straight away and before Windows boots. This will bring up a menu and you can choose to boot either Windows or Q4OS.

To avoid errors at the beginning of the installation, you need to place the q4os-winsetup file in the root of the C:\ drive.
