Ive been running the KDE version and haven't tried the TDE version in quite awhile. Ive acquired 3 Lenovo Thinkcentre M600 Tiny systems, who's overall performance is good but not great. They use the Pentium J3710 4 core cpu, 8gb ddr3, and 128gb SATA ssd. These cpus don't use more than 14w of power, thus their performance isnt as good as I had hoped. It can run KDE but particularly online with videos there can be issues at times.
Decided to try TDE and it was an excellent experience installing and setting it up. Had no issues whatsoever installing, updating and adding apps. It takes me back to the old days, with KDE 3.5 in many ways. Memory usage at desktop boot was between 435-465mb, which astounded me given the overall feature set. With Firefox open, it uses between 735-765mb which is outstanding. The memory is returned to the system very quickly upon closing of programs.
Programs are markedly faster and videos perform very well with no glitches or stutters.
Canon printer was seen automatically, along with both my WIFI and ethernet connection. These systems were released in late 2015 but in fact perform more like older 2012 Intel Ivy Bridge systems.
KDE users will have to adjust, as the GUI doesn't look or act in the same way and occasionally I had to do some searching to find what I wanted. That goes away very quickly, as you get use to the different look. I ended up using the classic menu with Debonaire, which suited me the best.
For those looking for a much lighter OS experience than you get with other distros, you should definitely give Q4OS TDE a look.
