Q4OS with xfce, kde plasma theme

Hello,

I want to try to make a lighter weight version of Q4OS plasma version.  My approach is to use XFCE (which I have heard is as stable as Plasma) and use a KDE theme for it so that it looks almost the same as Plasma.

If it is smaller in size using XFCE and a KDE theme then I would like to propose that this be the new DE in the next version of Q4OS.

Q4OS could fork two of these themes (one dark and one light) and replace just the icons with better ones.  The menus and fonts look just as good as Plasma, but the icons might be lower quality.

I chose a dark theme to start with but a light theme could easily be chosen, this one won some awards they said so it is my starting point.
It is called Arc-Darkest Complete Desktop.

I hope you will help me try this out as I think the Q4OS community will really appreciate an even lighter weight version of Q4OS with basically no difference in the look and feel.

I tried installing it myself and ran into some trouble, the DE didnt load when I logged out and logged back in, but likely when you replicate it, you will notice the problem.

Here is what I did
download the tar file
https://ocs-dl.fra1.cdn.digitaloceanspa … 56bc2d453a

There is also a download for Geany text editor which is not as good as Kate, but I downloaded it anyways
https://ocs-dl.fra1.cdn.digitaloceanspa … 1a31ba6004

The installation instructions in commands are

DE theme install
----------------------

sudo apt install -y xfce4
sudo apt install -y murrine-theme-engine

cd
cp Downloads/Arc-Darkest-2.1.5.tar ./
cp Downloads/Arc-Darkest-for-Geany-2.1.5.tar ./
tar -xvf Arc-Darkest-2.1.5.tar
mkdir ~/.themes
mkdir ~/.icons
cp -r Arc-Darkest ~/.themes/
cp -r Arc-Darkest ~/.icons/
cd

Optional Geany part
-------------------------
cd
sudo apt install -y geany
tar -xvf Arc-Darkest-for-Geany-2.1.5.tar
mkdir ~/.config
cd ~/.config
mkdir geany
cd geany
mkdir colorschemes
cd colorschemes
cd
cp Arc-Darkest.conf ~/.config/geany/colorschemes/
cd

Follow instructions
https://wiki.xfce.org/howto/install_new_themes

Use the GNOME Tweak Tool or an equivalent app to enable them for your desktop

Re: Q4OS with xfce, kde plasma theme

Why don't you try to do it with Trinity instead of installing XFCE in the plasma version? You can do the same thing with Trinity and it's already integrated in q4os, so I don't think we need xfce... Take a look at what I did with Trinity (light/dark win10 theme; osx theme...) : https://github.com/seb3773/q4osXpack  ; it's not totally finished and need some polishing, but it's in the spirit of what you want to accomplish I think.
The fact is if you need a lighter version of q4os plasma, it already exists: it is q4os with trinity, and it is very customizable.

Re: Q4OS with xfce, kde plasma theme

Just want to add I didn't think/said this is not a good idea; as I'm not an active plasma user, maybe I can't see the benefits.
By the way, the theme is very good, and I'm thinking of adapting it to trinity smile

Re: Q4OS with xfce, kde plasma theme

Hi seb3773

I had a look at the screenshots and they look much better than trinity default.

For my taste, I still like the Plasma look, just personal preference.

Let me know when you create the plasma theme for Trinity, especially if it completely replicates the plasma look.  My email address is my username.

Also, does trinity have the same reputation for stability as XFCE?
