I am considering installing vanilla Debian 12 live DVD GNOME and then running the Q4OS script so that I can have Q4OS with a GNOME base running on my computer.
Will I retain a GNOME desktop, or will it become KDE Plasma after I run the script?

I don't know.
To be sure, you can install Gnome directly from Q4OS, using the Desktop Environment tool.

Thanks for the reply. I am trying to avoid having an extra desktop environment installed that I wouldn’t be using.

Yes, the script should work for Debian Bookworm, however it will install Plasma desktop aside of Gnome.

The most proper way would be to use the Desktop profiler as @hchiper suggests. It's not possible to have single Gnome DE in Q4OS at the moment, dual DE configuration only. Plasma or Trinity is a dependency.
We strongly recommend you to save custom Desktop profile before an action as described https://www.q4os.org/dqa016.html , so you will be easily able to revert the system back to the original state. Don't hesitate to post a result here or a request for further assistance.

Thanks for the clarification. This is an install on a Microsoft Surface Go 2 tablet. GNOME works the best for me, so I was hoping to avoid KDE Plasma, as it would only be cruft for me in this user context.
