Trinity Desktop Enviroment doesn't work

Hi,

I've installed Q4OS 4.12 i386 on my HP Pavillion ze4300 to give it a new life, but from the very first boot TDE has never start and the PC has only the command line interface. I tried to use the startx command to launch TDE, but when I use the command a black screen appear. The mouse is the only thing that works, but the rest of the PC freeze and I have to disconnect the power to reset it.

I checked .xinitrc and there's just a line with

/etc/X11/Xsession

but the Xsession file did not contain any reference to inittde file (which I assume serves to start TDE), and I was unable to find TDE itself. So I installed it using

sudo apt install tde-trinity

sudo apt install tde-i18n-it-trinity

and then I changed .xinitrc by deleting the old line and adding

exec /opt/trinity/bin/starttde

After that, when I use startx, the screen turns blue and the cursor appears, but I get an error message saying "Could not start tdeinit. Please check your installation." with an ok button that takes me back to the terminal. I have googled a lot but I can't find anything about this problem. Please help me, it's my first time with Linux.

What way did you install Q4OS 4 and why didn't you use the more recent Q4OS 5 images ?

My PC only support boot from CD, that can fit 700 MB. This is smaller than the Q4OS 5 iso size, so I used a version that can stay in 700 MB of space (Q4OS Gemini, Trinity, 32bit). I burned the cd with CDBurnerXP at x48 speed. I used the full automated install and nothing gone wrong during the installation

It looks your hardware is not compatible with Q4OS. You could still install plain Debian and then use a dedicated script to install Q4OS on top of Debian, see https://q4os.org/dqa017.html . You can report a hardware related bug at Q4OS bug tracker https://sourceforge.net/p/q4os/tickets
