Best distro for FlightGear and ECS MCP61PM-HM / 8 Gigs RAM?

Hello friends,

It's been a long time since I last visited and much has happened in TRW to keep me away from just noodling around with Q4OS / XPQ4 (see: https://xpq4.sourceforge.io/).

I have occasionally been loading Linux Mint 21 / 64 / Cinnamon on various laptops, then customizing the themes and icons using the b00merang Projects theme and icon packs.*  Those have been easily done and the machines move quickly.

But I've run into a problem and thinking that I may need a lighter distro, such as Q4OS.  I am wondering -- of the Q4 family, which is the best distro recommended for the task.

SYSTEM INFO

BOARD / CPU / RAM

ECS MCP61PM-HM

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+

8 Gigs RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE nForce 430 / G98 GeForce 8400 **

OBJECTIVE:

Add Linux-based FLIGHT GEAR ***, or, via WINE, add one or more MS FLIGHT SIMULATOR installs (have 1998, 2002 & 2004) Joystick and two external monitors.

The software and hardware were of the same approximate cohorts, but I reasoned (?!) that with 8 gigs of RAM and Linux, the hardware should easily handle the task.

PROBLEM:

Even before adding FLIGHT GEAR, the entire system stalls (PCIe video card conflict?) and will not maximize the bundled FIREFOX browser.

Evidently, Linux moving extremely slow or even freezing is an issue, as I've seen numerous websites troubleshooting and resolving the issue.

QUESTION:

Remembering (from when I was last here about 2 years ago), that Q4OS is light weight and fast.  And, the developer was working on various 64 bit distros.  I seem to recall asking about Ubuntu-based versions, as being better able to recognize hardware and install their drivers on the fly.

Given that Q4 has probably come up with new and different distros, can the Readership recommend a lightweight version of Q4 that:

- is 64 bit based;

- easily able to recognized hardware / install drivers;

- run the Mobo / Graphics card combination on 8 Gigs of RAM; using,

- One or more Flight Sim programs?

ADDITIONAL QUESTION:

- What sort of Flight Sim programs (especially Drone simulator programs) might be able to run on this setup?

My heartfelt thanks in advance.
