I'll give that sound card link a try. Thanks!

The nic card - D-Link DFE670TXD 10/100 Mbps PCMCIA Adapter.
Note: this is not a wireless card but a cat5 cable connection.

Meanwhile, I've taken the advice of others and ordered a usb sound and usb wireless card. It will be a week or so before I get them. Hope to get the sound going with your above link today!

Ok, after looking over the instructions, I find I'll have to wait. I am unable to do an "apt-get" until I have the networking going! smile
I'll try again when I have my ethernet working. (just remember for that, I will have to download any files on one computer and transfer via usb or cd to the non-working laptop).
