Quark OS - Little known sister project

Though it has a forum at sourceforge but blank, I would like to open a thread.

People may download/try it. Its very interesting project. Q4OS on top of Ubuntu.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/quark-os/
https://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20220516

However, who are familier, please advise: (I have quarkos-22.04-x64.r6.iso)

1. Does Quark OS use snap or disabled it like Mint?
2. W10 and WinXP theme as seen in website screenshot are unavailable for me in live season. Is it got changed in 22.04 series?
3. Whats the point of Muon pakage manager, where Q4OS software manager and Discover are present. Also there is update manager. Make sense in Q4OS but not in Quark, Iguess.

Request: Quark got submitted (not accepted in database) and have a review at distrowatch. May be its time for some PR for this little known OS.

Recommend Quark OS at Distrowatch: https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=links#new

Re: Quark OS - Little known sister project

1. Quarkos can use snap it's not installed by default but not disabled.
2. The themes are available for Quarkos as well as for Q4OS, just install Lookswitcher from the software center and select a desired theme.
3. Muon is a superfluous package we will remove it in future version. Update manager is lightweight alternative to Discover, if you would want to uninstall it.

Yes, it's a good point, however Quarkos is still missing some exclusive branding to be considered as independent Linux distribution.

That should work, are you using Plasma desktop ? Did installation proceed a clean way ? Could you find themes in system settings ?

How exactly did you install Lookswitcher ?

Re: Quark OS - Little known sister project

I have installed lookswitcher through QuarkOS  software manager, in live season.

For some personal reason I could not make up my mind, which laptop I may start experimental install (dual boot/seperate hdd etc)

Re: Quark OS - Little known sister project

For long run, project name change may be needed.

Raise hand for "Q4buntu" ?

Re: Quark OS - Little known sister project

I think you'll find those projects are either moribund and or very very old.

Yeh, still...

Also the name Quark isn't much appealing for people outside Germany I believe.

You may need to run in terminal prior to installation to fulfill dependencies:
$ sudo apt update

Re: Quark OS - Little known sister project

There is probably much more traction for this project than many people realize. Whatever your opinion about systemd the split it caused within Debian has created a lot of issues Debian is meant not to have. In fact many of their descriptions about security and long term support no longer hold water since the degraded dev team is now unable to match the descriptions with physical output. IMO switching to Devuan is not the best possible alternative which really only leaves Ubuntu.
It's great to see the Quark OS 22.04 release and inline with other distros that have opted for an Ubuntu/Kubuntu base I would like to see Quark OS progress to center stage.

Re: Quark OS - Little known sister project

Yup - there's nothing like Canonical spamming your command line with security update FUD to get folks onto their Ubuntu Pro program...
..and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Any update regarding Quark OS?
