Hello,
As the Debian 12 transition/toolchain freeze is planned in about 3 weeks, I wanted to ask if there is a new Q4OS version planned based on it, seeing as Q4OS 4 had been in development for almost 11 months prior to the transition freeze of Debian 11.
Best regards

Yes, we plan to release Q4OS 5 development version based on Debian 12 Bookworm very soon.

Will it be possible to do an upgrade from Q4OS 4 to Q4OS 5 (and keep the programs already installed and their configurations) or will it be necessary to do a fresh install by overwriting the previous one (and reinstall + reconfigure all the programs)?

The upgrade will be possible according to the standard conditions of Debian. If you follow recommendations for Debian Bullseye and simply modify Q4OS repositories, it should be possible to upgrade Q4OS4 to 5 in most cases. However, we always recommend a new installation as it ensures the clean operating system base. You could also make use of custom profiles feature of the Desktop profiler, see https://www.q4os.org/dqa016.html

Not yet, we haven't determined a release date so far, however the first public development release should come soon. We are watching Debian 12 development carefully.
