How to turn read only USB stick back to read and write?

What programme can solve this problem?

USB has O4OS installed inside and refise both to boot and get formatted by Disks
Gparted can t help as well showing that sundisc stick is read only and does not make changes
How to use Q4OS installed on hard drive to correct this?

Re: How to turn read only USB stick back to read and write?

Regarding Q4OS installation on an USB stick, this thread and this other thread might provide you with useful information.

Regarding the read-only mode, isn't there a little switch on the stick to enable/disable write mode? I also found this page about write protection on (sundisk?) SanDisk USB sticks. I don't know if it can be useful to you.

Re: How to turn read only USB stick back to read and write?

Thanks but you did not get the picture

Q4OS 3.8 installed on HP computer's hard drive
The task is to format USB stick Sundisk 3.0 which has no mechanical switch on it
but it contains also Q4OS and some videofiles
One day this stick has become unbootable
Gparted shows it got into read only mode and can not be formatted
Is there any way/programme to cure such stick to make it functional as before
and be rewritten with new installment of Q4OS  from the other USB stick with live distro?

O4OS cannot make a USB stick read only in any way. You may have a hardware switch on the stick or some kind of failure. What message does GParted report exactly ? Could you post a screenshot ?

It is possible that gnome-disk-utility will be of some help. Install it - it will show as Disks in the menu.

Insert the key and it will appear in the left hand list of drives. Select it and on the right it will show a block 'map' of the drive. Assuming it is just one partition, select that partition on the 'map'.

Underneath that box, on the left end, are 3 small icons. The right hand of those is a pair of gear wheels. Click that and you'll get a useful list of things to do. The most helpful will be Repair Filesystem. That may work to restore RW permissions on the drive.
