No Desktop after an install.

I'm new here...
With THAT being said... I have 3 Fujitsu P1120 Lifebook's that I would like to repurpose.
These "Netbooks" are not cable of 'BOOTING' from a USB or a CD (Unless, it's THE Propriety CD Drive that shipped with it.) Generic USB CD Drives will NOT work for booting into a Fujtsu P1120.
SO... I have the Q4OS image mounted on a Windows machine.
I put grldr on the C:\ drive of the target machine. I also create a Directory called "boot". And, I put the vmlinuz and initrd.gz files in it.
I also have the ISO files installed on a small (16GB) thumb drive. And the install pulls all of the install files from that drive.
I changed the "boot.ini" file in Windows XP to include the line "C:\grldr ="Let's Try Linux"
REBOOT...
Then I type... "kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz"
Then I type "initrg (hd0,0)/boot/initrd.gz"
Then I type "boot" and hit enter..... Q4OS installs with questions....

I hope I haven't lost you here.....
I can go through the Q4OS / Debian install ALL the way....
And then sign in as a user or as root......
WHERE is the DESKTOP I was expecting???? I expected to see a "Trinity" Desktop....
But, I got Nuthin...

Any help would be appreciated...

Just a quick update... MY version of Q4OS is Debian 5.10.0-9-686
Which is Debian 5.10.70-1 as it was Bundled.

I found this page describing the installation of Mandrake Linux on a Fujitsu P1120. Maybe some useful tips there.
It gives its sepcs:

256 MB RAM,
1024x600 display.

RAM is at the lowest limit for Q4OS/Trinity. No idea of a requirement for the resolution.
Maybe it takes a long time at the end of the boot before a graphical desktop is displayed (if any) as it is the case here on a slow virtual machine, and in the meantime a console prompt becomes indeed available to login.
