Dual booting into windows breaks grub menu

My wife's computer dual-boots for gaming. I replaced Kubuntu with Q4OS Plasma. It works until someone boots into Windows(10). Grub2 successfully boots windows exactly once.  Booting into Windows that first time breaks the grub menu, all subsequent boots fail to grub's bash-like prompt. Both exit & normal fail at this prompt.  This is 100% repeatable.

This appears to be an upstream bug. I installed Debian 10.9 and got exactly the same breakage. The grub2 menu works as long as you never boot into Windows.

I have reinstalled Kubuntu (21.04), which does not have this problem. She can switch back & forth from Windows to Kubuntu all day long, with no problems.

Re: Dual booting into windows breaks grub menu

Do you have secure boot activated ? If you like O4OS, you could give Quark with Plasma desktop, based on Ubuntu 20.04 a try.

Legacy booting is enabled. Is there something I'm missing?

Re: Dual booting into windows breaks grub menu

We are not able to reproduce the issue. Is the UEFI booting is disabled completely ? That looks like either BIOS or Windows loves the Ubuntu bootloader and dislike the Debian's one. Maybe some BIOS configuration could fix this issue.
