In order to help you we need more details on your HW and SW (which Q4OS version/variant is installed). Specifically WiFi HW - what chipset ?

I installed. the q4os centaurus trinity 64 bit and as for the wifi chipset it's Ralink corp. rt3290 wireless 802.11n 1T/1r PCIe

oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I previously installed the plasma version and then I installed trinity to see if it would fix the problem, which it didn't.

Well, it looks you have ~3 options:
* Download driver source code with patches, compile it yourself (e.g., https://askubuntu.com/questions/253632/ … d-working) and you're good
* Swap Ralink WiFi (if possible at all) to something better supported, e.g., Intel WiFi module. Requires finding compatible WiFi module and "popping the hood" of your laptop
* Buy small USB adapter, supported by Linux, e.g., something like this one or similar- https://www.amazon.com/Cudy-650Mbps-Ada … 49&sr=8-12 . The easiest but least elegant and least teaching option

In Linux world desktop environment (TDE, KDE, XFCE, KDE, etc) has nothing to do with HW drivers - the kernel is what matters. And since you still got same kernel for both KDE and TDE, nothing has changed towards your WiFi - kernel is still missing drivers.

If it helps, my desktop PC came with a little wireless dongle that is branded Dynamode. It's listed as Ralink MT7601U Wireless Adapter and works fine with linux.

I installed Q4OS recently, 32bit with Trinity deasktop (due to low system resources) on V old laptop.
Did you let the installer attempt to set up your WiFi and if so did it fail?
While the installer was a tiny bit clunky it worked fine.
