I did my first install with KDE last night on a Dell E6420 laptop and overall it went very well. During the install the options for the type of install such as desktop wasnt quite as clear as the previous version and may throw a few newbies at first.
Install was quick and no other issues except for the Nvidia gpu. I tried to run it with the Nouveau drivers but the system ended up freezing so after installing the 390 Nvidia drivers everything is running very well, including wifi and printer support.
Having made no changes with the install at first boot to GUI the resource usage was 480mb which is excellent. Choice of apps was great and really didnt have to install many apps overall. No issues with the software center and overall performance was brisk. For an older laptop it ran really well but again some disappointment.
This has been mentioned by others in the forum, but theres no Q4OS themes or wallpapers but there are lots of Debian wallpapers.
Having some custom Q4OS wallpapers in particular would be great and push the brand a bit more. Also having used MX Linux which has some great tools, having something similar in Q4OS would help in creating a more unique OS and differentiating it a bit more from a standard Debian install.
Very nice distro and very stable given its a testing version.

Tested on my E6400s and the two that have Nvidia gpus wont boot but the one with the Intel gpu boots fine. Apparently the Nvidia driver that works with the E6420 doesnt like the E6400s even though the driver is compatible with both gpus. No big deal as its a testing version and Im sure some of this will get sorted out. I believe its the 450 Nvidia driver as I incorrectly stated the 390 driver was being used.

Above problem has solved itself and no longer occurs and this KDE distro is stable, fast and acts more like a final release.

Are you running Gemini in a UEFI or Legacy BIOS pc/laptop? I tried it in a UEFI laptop, install went fine but upon reboot I got "No bootable device found" https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3413 I also tried with pure Bullseye and got the same thing.

Hi. I had similar issue with the MacBookPro installation. I had to boot to Linux Live USB, start Gparted and set boot flag to the root partition. Rebooted normally.

Didn't try that. Thing is, this had happened before with Gemini 4.1, only a bit different; I was able to use the system for a couple of weeks and then after updating/upgrading the system, got the "no bootable device" message on reboot, since I'd never had that kind of issue before I didn't know exactly what to do and went the easier way; reinstall stable which I know just works. But I'm thinking of giving a second try and see how that goes. Thanks for the reply.

Im running 4.2 on a Dell E6420 laptop using Legacy mode and a 128gb ssd and have never had any issues booting. 4.2 has been rock solid stable.

Thanks! Well I did have some issues in my UEFI machine and like I said also with pure Bullseye too when I tried just to make sure it wasn't a Q4OS issue, so q4osteam might be right, and it's a probably an upstream issue.

NP.
Just to confirm the problem is there, yesterday had dejavu regarding same issue but with different HW (EliteBook 8460p). Same story - "No boot drive found" after first post-install reboot. Booted to the install media, installed GParted, had to set the "boot" flag to the root partition and the problem was solved (again).

So you're saying you solved this twice by setting the "boot" flag? Hmmm... I think I'm going to give it another try then and see how that goes. Thank you very much for your reply.

Yes. Twice with different laptops - 2014 MacBookPro and HP EliteBook 8460p.
P.S.: during install I accepted option with wiping the storage & automatic partitioning

Glad to help. Let me know if you need any further details regarding HW I used to install Q4OS Testing version.
