Download and install Opera for Q4OS

I'm new to Q4OS and I downloaded it because I'm using a low spec laptop. Once I downloaded it worked great, super fast and similar to windows. However, I seem to have a problem downloading and installing a new browser other than Google Chrome or Firefox. How can I download opera (where and what folder should I place it) and install it? I should mention that I try using the "Konsole" from another forum but i couldn't get it to work

You have to download the opera installer file first, open konsole, the terminal, type this

wget https://download3.operacdn.com/pub/opera/desktop/74.0.3911.107/linux/opera-stable_74.0.3911.107_amd64.deb

And press enter. It'll be downloaded in your /home folder. You can also download it from Opera site https://www.opera.com/. Once it's downloaded, install it by typing this in konsole

sudo apt install ./opera-stable_74.0.3911.107_amd64.deb

Press enter, type in your password when asked and wait for the process to finish. That's it.

Hope this helps! smile

Re: Download and install Opera for Q4OS

Here are 4 ways to install Opera and you could use Snap as its an easy way to install apps and Opera can also be installed by GUI if you prefer.

The most easy way is to run the Opera installer for Q4OS.
Download location:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/f … ntal_apps/
or
https://github.com/q4os-installers/oper … ag/v2.2-a1

Another easy way is to add external repository using the "qrepoadd" tool, see https://www.q4os.org/dqa007.html#extrepo

I think making Opera available in Software Center is a good idea.

Re: Download and install Opera for Q4OS

Hi

I've also been using Opera for a while. And I'm very happy with the speed with small RAM. But now there is a problem with Opera and videos on facebook, twitter, etc. It is obviously about a license. Some say it's about libffmpeg.so and you have to download a special version of it and place it in the Opera folder. I've tried, but it's no use. On the contrary, the problem gets bigger and the websites with the videos crash. Even a complete new installation, including downloading the package and installing it with GNOM software, did not solve the problem.

Maybe there is someone on the team who is more knowledgeable and can do some research? It would be great if Opera would work 100% again on Q4OS, because Chromium is significantly slower with little RAM.

Thanks very much
