how to enable backports?

im trying to enable backports, i want to switch to a newer kernel

but i dont se the sources.list where it would normally be on debian so im not sure what to edit, the debian documentation would have me edit that file but its not really clear

and speaking of, can i use debian testing branch with q4os?

Re: how to enable backports?

Just run in terminal:
$ sudo qrepoadd --gui
and select "buster-backports" repository.

Next install the kernel, see https://www.q4os.org/dqa011.html#system.6

Yes, there is Q4OS based on Debian Testing: https://www.q4os.org/downloads2.html
But, unfortunately, only Plasma, no Trinity sad

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

Re: how to enable backports?

Oh I see that's unfortunate. TDE with all its q4os specific utilities was the selling point for me, seems a kernel update didnt solve the issue of websites not working right. Oh well

@HeraWearingx1337
You can easily install TDE 14.0.10 on Q4OS 4 Gemini, which is based on Debian Bullseye. Just select Trinity desktop in the Desktop profiler and proceed the installation. See also https://www.q4os.org/dqa015.html#ddskr

Re: how to enable backports?

Would it not be a good idea to get back to what seems to have been the original reason for wanting to install the backports kernel? From your post it looks like you were having problems with some web sites.

Was this the reason?

If so please explain in more detail.

If you look in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ you'll see a number of discrete .list files which govern installations along with the main  in /etc/apt/sources.list

As a cautionary tale I would mention that I have been using Bullseye with TDE and about a week back an update through Bullseye broke vokoscreen-ng completely. I think it was the latest kernel update but cannot be sure yet. Bullseye is still Testing - even with a freeze in hand wink

As you seem to prefer TDE (wise choice) perhaps I could suggest that you start again with Centaurus TDE and then identify the problems with which you need assistance. If there is more than one then create different posts for each to avoid muddle.

Re: how to enable backports?

That's okay. centuar intoduced even more hardware bugs and slowness and I guess i will just be distro hopping again, this is probably unfixable.

Re: how to enable backports?

Does not help that trinity programs crash 10 times more on here.
kde is still gonna be kde at the end of the day, even as a fork along with all its krashes
