Will there be a TDE version of the testing image? (GEMINI) as the download size is double the stable version (Centaurus) and I see its Plasma based now.
Offline
Yes, it will be available, however the release date is not determined yet. Anyway, it's possible to install the Plasma version available, and let the new Desktop profiler to strip the system into the one of the desktop profiles from the list. One of the new Desktop profiler features is ability to remove superfluous packages, that don't belong to the selected profile. At the same time tell Desktop profiler to install Trinity desktop and subsequently you could remove Plasma desktop:
$ sudo apt autoremove q4os-desktop-plasma
The resulted system will feature TDE desktop only, the profile selected, and no Plasma.

Thanks guys, the biggest problem here is that sourceforge is limiting the download speed to 200kb and so downloading it takes hours! I only have about half an hour to go with this download so I'll be ok for this version but will probably hold off trying newer versions until the TDE one is available.

On my real installation I could not remove Plasma (the fail was installing trinity due to broken dependencies) so tried again in a vm and failed again for the same reasons.
To replicate:-
1 install Q4OS Gemini (I used q4os-4.1-x64-testing.r1.iso)
2 install updates (Hundreds of them!)
3 attempt to install trinity via desktop profiler.
I know Bullseye is almost designed to break and this could be just one of them things but If I cant remove Plasma I cant test Gemini...

Yes, we can confirm the Trinity desktop cannot be installed on Q4OS Gemini due to unsatisfied dependencies at the moment, we will check and fix the issue and post back here.
Offline
The issue should be fixed now. You can try to install Trinity on Q4OS Gemini using the desktop profiler tool. Please post back, if possible.

Thanks, will check now.

All worked ok this time, just for the sake of anyone reading this I ran an update | upgrade before attempting this and after adding TDE and removing Plasma everything seems ok, except everything on the screen is huge and looks like a 800x600 display right now, but I'm sure I can fix it with a few tweaks.
Thank you devs.

Well I'm not sure what happened there, I tried changing the theme to using lookswitcher and the machine seemed to freeze, I left it a few minutes and then hard reset it. I then booted again and have no login screen so logged in as my user and typed startx only to be very surprised that I am greeted with a Plasma desktop??? not sure how this can be but here it is...

I gave up with Gemini to TDE, but I was able to install standard Trinity 14.08 on a Debian Bullseye cli install and adding tde-base on top. I had to install pulseaudio before installing Trinity to get sound to work but that was on a VM.

Thanks I'll give that a go.

Likely Plasma desktop hasn't been uninstalled in complete. We can recommend to proceed the following steps to make Trinity work on Q4OS Gemini:
1. Perform the complete Plasma uninstall:
$ sudo apt autoremove q4os-desktop-plasma sddm* plasma-*
2. Configure tdm-trinity as the default display manager:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure tdm-trinity
3. Reboot.
4. Give Trinity desktop login and try.

I finally got to Trinity desktop although I have to login at cli and run startx (i can correct this no problem) so looks like it has worked (on real hardware), Thank you.
I will try again in VM's to see how I can streamline this as I usually end up doing many fresh installations when running testing versions and would want to have an easier method to do it.
Is there any plan to release a TDE image before bullseye becomes stable?
Offline
Unfortunately, no timeline is determined to release TDE image at the moment. The latest possible deadline is as soon as Gemini becomes stable. We are also considering to release it alongside the next Plasma image though.
