I'm installing Q4OS Centaur from my Windows 10 installation. The installer has been sitting at about 2/3 on "expanding" for over an hour. Does it really take that long?

Depending on the size of the virtual disk file, it could really take so long. Please try to let installer a time to complete the operation. What disk size for Q4OS did you choose ?

256. I left it overnight last night, and it's still working on it. Do I need to just abort and start over?
Offline
Do abort it, make a try for different, smaller size, for ex. 32G. and post back a result please.

Ok, success at a smaller size. Dual-boot works fine. But I thought the default desktop was Trinity. How come I'm getting plasma?

Plasma is default for Q4OS-3 Centaurus. Anyway, you can let the Desktop profiler to install Trinity desktop indeed, and keep Plasma as a secondary available desktop, or remove it manually anytime:
$ sudo apt autoremove q4os-desktop-plasma
Trinity was the default desktop for older Q4OS-2 Scorpion, you can still download installer here https://www.q4os.org/downloads3.html

Why the change?

We love Trinity, as an incredibly lightweight and powerful desktop, however some of its features are getting age. Majority of users prefer Plasma desktop, so we decided to make Plasma the default, and make easily possible to use Trinity alongside Plasma.

That's too bad. It's probably too much to hope that Trinity really has a chance at this point.

Trinity has a chance at least within Q4OS distribution. We love and support it, you can find Trinity dedicated live media for the current stable Q4OS-3 Centaurus edition https://www.q4os.org/downloads1.html . You can also install Trinity side by side with Plasma, or exclusively, using the newest testing Q4OS-4 Gemini edition https://www.q4os.org/downloads2.html based on Debian Bullseye testing. Moreover we have released an experimental Ubuntu Focal based OS called Quark see https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3028 . Trinity desktop option is available the same way as in the Q4OS-4 Gemini.

Please, please, please at least keep an install iso for Q4OS Trinity as an option. I'd just hate to have to waste storage space on Plasma when I'm never going to use it.
Current setup: Acer Aspire One D257 / Q4OS Centaurus / TDE / SeaMonkey 2.53.8.1
